Martin Luther college is an institute dedicated to the mission of training "a corps of Christian witnesses who are competent to proclaim the Word of God faithfully … and in accord with the Lutheran Confessions in the Book of Concord." The school is affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and carries out all instruction and programs of student life according to the gospel.  It is the desire of the college to strengthen and prepare its students for citizenship in today’s world through the implementation of Christian teachings and values in accordance with the gospel.  The college also intends to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for Christian service and for continued education. Students interested in working as teachers and staff ministers in WELS will find programs specifically tailored to their needs and the needs of the synod. Martin Luther college offers courses for continued learning in the form of graduate and certificate programs designed to allow students to enhance their education cheaply and effectively.  Among those programs include the Educational Technology Certificate program, WELS Evangelism Certificate, Master of Arts in Theological studies, and Master of Science in education administration.
