Hi my name is Donna and I got my B.A. and my M.A. in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University. I'm a 30-year old married Mom, I have a three-and-a-half year old little boy and we're from Charleston, SC.

I decided to go back to school 5 years ago. I had been working for the same company for about 8 years and I just wasn't going anywhere. I knew that without an education that I just wouldn't go any further than the call center I was working in.

I was always interested in working with juvenile defenders and thought that a degree in Criminal Justice was the route to go. Kaplan University turned out to have the most impressive criminal justice department in my eyes. I've just completed my final classes at Kaplan for my Master's degree and I'll be walking in my graduation in January with a final GPA of 4.0. I'm the first in my family to graduate from college.

The flexibility of the classes and schedule was just great. I was able to work, take care of family, and go to school at the same time. The online atmosphere especially worked for me when I was put on bed rest during my pregnancy. In a traditional classroom, I would've fallen way too far behind and with a newborn, I know I wouldn't have been able to travel to an actual classroom.

The time I spent at Kaplan made me realize that online universities are for working people like me. So much so that I'm currently applying to be an online instructor while still volunteering with juvenile offenders.

The biggest prize for me is that I know I have choices—choices that were not there before I decided to take the step to becoming a college graduate.
