I have been a student with Upper Iowa University for just over 2 years and will graduate in March with my BS in Marketing.
UIU is a great institution with a great deal to offer. The staff, professors, and technical support all go above and beyond normal activities to ensure a very rewarding experience.
I will admit that the experience was outstanding enough for me to apply and be excepted into the UIU MBA program.

I completed my A.S. in Accounting at a community college near my home in Tennessee. I had trouble finding schools that would accept my accounting courses as anything other than just business electives, requiring me to take accounting classes over. I even had one admission counselor at a 4-year private school tell me that her university didn't want students completing courses outside their school because then the school missed out on the tuition.
UIU accepted my accounting classes and I had to take approximately 45 hours to graduate. I went through the online program and my instructors were very well versed in their fields. I graduated with a high 2 point grade average so they didn't "give away" grades as other posts suggested. The administrative offices have always been responsive and I still here from the alumni association regularly. The prices are a bit high but really not much more so than other private universities. A+ to UIU! Go Fighting Peacocks!
I am just coming to the end of my third term at UIU. It has been challenging and fulfilling so far. I have come across some really supurb instructors too. I am very happy with my choice to attend UIU.
Upper Iowa University provides the perfect education for adult learners. They offer distance learning through self-paced, online, and 40-hour week long accelerated classes.
I do not live in Iowa but have traveled to the Fayette campus and stayed in the dorms for their 1 week acclerated IEXL classes. The IEXL course occurs only during the spring and summer sessions for their online students. No other university I know does this!!!
If you want a well rounded education, UIU is the answer. The UIU staff has always been there for me and I am very happy with my learning expereinces at UIU.
The course work on average is moderate with some courses requiring late nights and lengthy papers. Other classes seem to be quick paced with fewer assignments but lots of class participation. A friend of mine going to UC Riverside was impressed with UIU and the small class sizes. He dropped out from the UC system to go to school online.
UIU is the perfect match for my educational needs and I am so glad I made the right decision.
Having completed my undergraduate degree with UIU on location in Des Moines and Ankeny, I must admit that compared with the state university I attended previously, UIU was indeed a joke. Eight weeks isn't nearly enough time to delve into the material, the assignments and tests weren't challenging, and the professors weren't nearly as approachable (busy with their other teaching positions at other universities). The worst part is this school cost much more than a state university and buried me in greater student loan debt; however, the options were limited in the town I'd moved to.
Then they accepted me in their online graduate program, which I currently attend and am disappointed with. The 3 professors I've taken so far have expressed extremely conservative political ideology and seem to discriminate against students with liberal leanings. Though I may not truly qualify as "liberal," attending under the guidance of ultra-conservative, fervently religious professors is proving irritating and wasn't what I expected. It may be time to consider transferring elsewhere.
