I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews for UOP. It should be understood that with any education, one gets what one puts in. Having said that, I have nothing but positive things to say about the university. The fact that the instructors are employed in the field your studying for is great and beneficial. I have made important contacts and networked myself as well. Remember folks, if you want to succeed then you will!!

Learning Teams

I have attended this school for 5 weeks. I cannot get in touch with my financial advisor regarding my financial aid. They do not tell you about these Learning Teams that you are required to be apart of that consist to up to 5 people. Who wants their grade to be determined upon other individuals who may be okay with just doing mediocre work. Also, this school charges way too much. I am currently withdrawing from this school because I have found another online school that is less than half the price, gives you actual books with the tuition, and do not have Learning Teams. (All of UoP books are online, so, why do we have a separate book fee?)

University of Phoenix--BS in Psychology

I am a University of Phoenix student. This is my 3rd year with the University. I received my Associate of Arts degree in Psychology last year, and decided to continue on in the Bachelor program. I plan to transfer to another school for grad school next year upon graduation.

I have had a few minor issues with the University. First, if they tell you that your credits from previous colleges are going to transfer, get it in writing before signing the papers, or E-signing them, as the case may be. The people you talk to in the beginning are NOT academic counselors. They are contracted salespeople. On the papers that you sign, it says that only what is in that contract is binding. Their word means nothing.

Second, I have read posts about people not being able to contact their counselors. I have had this issue, but they are usually willing to change your counselor if you cannot contact them. You just have to voice your concerns, instead of sitting back and complaining.

Third, there are many people complaining about getting kicked out for not meeting attendance requirements or failing. Any grade below a C is failing at any university. You know that upon entering. They pound that into your head. They also pound into your head the fact that if you do not MEET ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS, you cannot receive financial aid. This is a regulation set by the federal government. If you do your assignments and post them as you are supposed to, you automatically meet attendance requirements.

Lastly, if you are planning to go into a field of some sort upon graduation, instead of just advancing in your own field, check the accreditation requirements of your state. The UOP program may not meet these requirements, forcing you to enter grad school somewhere else, as I am. And also, if you do plan to go to grad school, make sure that they accept your UOP degree. Chances are that they will not.

I do recommend this school for those who are stay-at-home parents, but it is very time consuming. You only get out what you put into it. I do not recommend this program to those with no interpersonal skills, since you do a large portion of the work in groups consisting of several people who you will want to kill by the end of the course.

Too much work at UofP

I find that online is hard to get too especially when you get to the higher classes, and you have a lot of work. But online it's worse. You have online posts practically everyday (mini papers if you will) and 4 large papers individually, and 2 or 3 large LT papers. Too much work for the working adult, especially if you have a family. I would suggest going to a regular college if you want this much work. Or, just plan on not seeing your family for 2-4yrs, depending on where you already are in your college career when you sign up.

I have been attending this collage for two years. I am on my last class to recieve my AAD. I have had a great time with this college. I have had no problems with getting a hold of the teachers or any trouble with the site being down. I plan to continue my education with UOP.

I have been going to U of P for almost a year now and I have not had any problems with the school until now. I failed a class and I am having a hard time with getting a hold of my advisers. Not only that they want me to retake the class next semester and I have to pay for it out of my own pocket. I understand with having to pay for the class but what I do not agree with is the school choosing when I take the class. If I am paying for the class I should be able to decide when I retake the class. Also this school is very expensive and by the time I get my degree, I will owe the government and bank way too much!!!

Social Work

Although U of P claimes to offer a Bachelors of Science in Social Work according to many websites they advertise on, it is really only a Bachelors in Human Services. I don't know about the rest of the country, but in the state of Ohio you have to have an actual SOCIAL WORK degree, you cannot apply for a license with a Human Services degree, it will not suffice. U of P needs to better inform potential students and refrain from misleading them with false info.

Th UofP was a great experience

I have been attending the UofP since April 2007. Overall I have had a wonderful experience. I am on the last leg of my AAB degree and I an going to start my BS in Psychology. The instructors and my advisors have been wonderful. They were especially helpful when I had a family crisis and had to withdraw from a course. My advisors and my instructor worked with me so I could retake the course without ony out of pocket cost. This was great because IAA would not have been able to pay for it and it would have halted my degree completion. The only negative I can think of is the price of the courses. They are expensive but it is a nationally known school.

University of Phoenix has been a great experience. I have been attending online classes for four years now and I love the convenience of it. I majored in human services Management and have a 3.9 GPA. All the instructors have been good so far but of course you can bump into those instructors that make class difficult.

It is easy and convenient, especially for me since I have three children and have a full time job. Over all, it’s a good way to get your education, but if you can find a cheaper school then go for it!! If you ask; if I think UOP classes are overpriced? The answer is yes, but keep in mind that UOP is a nationally recognized university.

B.S. in Psychology at UPX

I am currently a student at University of Phoenix. I think that the class format stinks as it seems that professors do not want to listen to students or could care less about the student. Also, as far as cost, it is over priced especially for a 5 week course ($1620). At that price, I can take more than one course at a traditional college. Overall rating: poor.

I have been taking classes since 2007 and the closer I get to completing the program, I always have a problem with me failing a class when I know I have enough points to pass the class. When in question the teacher is always right.

Classes Good - Attendance Policy Not Good

I was with UofP for over a year and was two weeks away from getting my AA in Business when I was Auto-Dropped. I came to find out that because in week 1 I posted all my assignments early and made 3 posts before the start date they would not count toward my attendance and that I will have to re-take the class. Besides that the UofP rep was very rude advising that it is not the University's fault and that I will have to pay to take the class over!!!

University of Phoenix Online

I was enrolled in the online social work program through University of Phoenix. I liked the college; the staff and administrators were always very helpful and kind. Sadly, I found out 1/2-way through the program that many employers will not even consider someone who has an online degree. I dropped from UofP, and transfered to an on-campus program instead. It's harder because I am no longer able to learn from home, but I didn't want to waste all my time and money only to have to do it again.

Human Resources Management

Overall, the online learning was a little more difficult to me because it seemed that there was much less student teacher interaction than there is in a traditional classroom environment. Often times I would have to go over the lectures and book 2-3 times just to understand a concept that I believe could have been easily explained by a real live person.

The professors seemed to rarely check the message boards, and rarely, if ever, responded to questions, so it really did seem like a "learn on your own and we'll give you credit" type of situation. I would not recommend online training to anyone who has difficulty self teaching themselves.
