I have read many negative reviews of this school and just as many positive ones. It seems that, as with everything, it's a matter of perspective.
Out of 15 credits I earned at a traditional college, 11 of those credits (including 5 math credits) were transferable and applied towards my GenEd requirements. My loan money has been applied appropriately and I have been sent documentation from the school and the government which matches precisely with what I was led to believe. In fact, I am finishing my degree for about $3,000 less than what I was originally told and I have received all of my financial aid funds.
My counselors have stuck with me and guided me throughout the whole process, even recommending right from the start that I purchase the books for my core classes on Amazon.com because I may need them later in my career.
Overall, this has been a good experience and I am looking forward to getting my degree in November. Also, I have contacted several of my local city and county offices and have been told that online degrees are being taken seriously and given the same attention as traditional degrees.
As someone who actually graduated from the University of Phoenix, I had a positive experience during my time there. I have my Master of Arts in Education.
Due to the nature of online education, classes are fast-paced and very demanding. There are a lot of assignments that are due each week. Online education is not for the lazy student. It is a lot of work, reading, and writing. This is not something that should come as a surprise in higher education.
The best thing about UOP are the professors. My professors were great. All of my professors were currently in the education field and were very supportive and knowledgeable. I had more consistent contact with my online professors than I ever did with my professors during my undergraduate program at a state college. The increase in correspondence with my professors was a major contributor to my learning. That kind of support and knowledge base is irreplaceable.
The required daily participation was another important part of my positive experience with the UOP. I had great classmates (most of the time) who were from all over the world. Having classmates from all over the globe and learning from their experiences in the classroom was a positive experience.
During my student teaching practicum, my University Supervisor was incredible. As a matter of fact, I cannot say enough good things about her role during my practicum. She was so involved, encouraging, and professional. She kept in contact with me all the time. She emailed and called me almost daily. Her support and instruction during my practicum was above and beyond what I ever expected. I feel privileged to have had her input and advice concerning instruction, classroom management, and lesson-planning. She kept me going, and I will never forget her role in my education and career.
There are things the UOP needs to fix, no one can deny that. Their enrollment practices are infamous for being too focused on sales. I wish they would do away with open enrollment. Also, they need to minimize changes to advisors. My academic and financial aid advisors changed too often. Those are things I wish they would fix; however, I am only here to comment on the actual education from the UOP. Their education, professors, curriculum, and classroom dynamics are all positive.
I honestly don't know what a lot of you are talking about. UofP provides a very challenging experience which gives you the opportunity to grow professionally and personally. This is college and it is not supposed to be easy, it is supposed to be hard. I have only been going to this school for a few months and I am satisfied with everything.
I NEVER have a problem getting in touch with the counselors or advisors-in fact they contact me WAY TOO MUCH just to check in on me and to see if I have any questions.Every teacher that I've had has been very involved in all of the classwork and is always available when I have questions. When you compare the price to some other schools, the price of UofP really is not that bad, because I've come across schools that are a lot more expensive than this one.Overall, Phoenix has much more positive aspects than negative, and I would recommend this school to anyone.- Most Recommended Schools
