First of all, let me add that I have a 4 year degree from the University of South Carolina that I absolutely worked my butt off for. That was a tough school, and I was extremely proud of the accomplishment.
However, this job market and economy is absolutely horrible and that degree pretty much means nothing. That was a tough pill to swallow after being maintaining a 3.5 throughout undergrad. I can say that after all of the money that I paid for that school, and knowing that it is a very decent education, it means NOTHING. Let me add to that by saying no employer has ever had anything to say about the origin of that degree. They don't care where it was from, and I am simply over- or underqualified for every position I apply for.
(And therefore I promised myself to never put myself through the schooling that I thought looked best to others, because it truly didn't matter anyway. I went with UoPhx because it was convenient for ME. That is he most important thing about your own education anyway.)
So I sucked it up and went back for a graduate degree. I have had the luxury of moving three times since I have been in this program, which I never could have done with any b&m school. I don't have the time to waste in driving to school to hear some professor spout out everything I can find in the book. I hate going to class, I find it a waste of time, and generally don't need the lectures. I was a student who in most classes could get by cramming for a test and passing fairly easily, and never really got anything from it. UoPhx allowed me to go to school without the lecture and pointless rote memory testing and I can say that I actually have been required to do more critical thinking than in any other class. By researching for UoPhx papers, I learned a great deal more than I would have gotten from the textbook. And the research is no joke. UoPhx does require a high level of research skills, and most of my teachers have been harsh on requiring "peer reviewed" resources. Other schools could care less if you use Wikipedia. (Let me add to this that the biggest trend in healthcare is to become evidence-based, which means a heavy reliance on research abilities, which I can truly say I have mastered in this program.)
And yes, UoPhx requires the same crappy group projects that I did in the other two b&m universities I attended. Group mates are still crappy people, and I still end up doing someone else's work and the teacher could care less. That is the same for every school I have attended.
Yes, I started out with a lot of people who seemed to barely speak English and I seriously questioned where this degree would get me. Guess what? I saw those people in my undergrad classes as well. As I am now three classes from MHA, I am seeing fewer of those people. They are weeded out, and the school made money from them. That's called a business. And I have seen people drop out of these programs because it was too tough. It's a personal learning preference, and this works for some people better than it does for others. It works for people who have a goal and can handle being in school year round and writing a 6 page paper every week. That works for me. Others would rather have a test every week. Those people aren't cut out for UoPhx.
And as for those people complaining about owing the school money, name one other school who ISN'T going to make you pay back after dropping out. The problem is you blindly agreed to these federal loans and never thought about paying it back until UoPhx ended up not being something you could make work. And you agreed to that loan, so now you have to pay it. Welcome to the real world.
UoPhx may not be the best school I have ever attended but I would say the effort required from me is comparable to universities I have attended before. I don't see how anyone could expect a Harvard caliber of education from an online school.

I am somewhat annoyed by reading the negative remarks. Some of them highlighting the lack of admission process in order to attend and the fact that it is non profit. On the first point, UOP has an unbelievable drop out rate because anyone can join, but once the work begins those who are not motivated or capable leave.
As to the second point, those who honestly believe that other universities are non profit are idiots. Most colleges have endowments in the billions. So think long and hard before speaking ill of a company that provided a product to people who want to better themselves.I have attended for UOP and have been offered many jobs as a result. I would recommend this school to anyone. Anyone considering UOP should disregard the negative comments because from what I gather they have never attended this university.

I attend UOP online and it was great at first but for me the log in 4 out of 5 times perweek is a lot and to have to post to two student and the intructors is to much for a person who is work. This school is for someone who does not work and have a lot of time on their hand. Other then that the work is easy.

This school treats veterans terrible. They spend a lot of time telling you how much they will help you and that they walk you through getting everything set up but when it comes down to it they straight out lie to you about almost everything and every person you talk to tells you something else. They with hold funds from GIBill that are supposed to go to the student and when they do release funds it is weeks or even months in my case before they get them to you.. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL
