Kaplan BSIT Program

Overall, I have had a relatively smooth program at Kaplan. Some of the classes are too easy but most deliver decent and useful information. I have only had some minor problems with changes to the experiential learning credits but hoped that has been resolved. In general the learning advisors are simply point of sale contacts with little or no power to assist. Any serious problems should be directed to the Dean of students. Overall the program is easily followed but I agree with all others that it is pricey

No School is Perfect

I believe in the power of education no matter where you can find it. Have I had troubles or concerning issues with Kaplan University? Yes, most definitely. Did I let that stop me? No. It is my belief that no matter what school you go to there will be some issues that come up. Some good, some bad. There is no one college or educational institution that is perfect in every single way. I found Kaplan (an accreditted school) through a very thorough, secure, and specific website. Had it not been for that I would have ended up NOT choosing Kaplan. I can safely say that, while I had a couple of small issues and a couple of bad ones, going to Kaplan was well worth my time...even for a single mother of 3 at the time. A lot of people have spoken about Kaplan and how expensive they are. I will agree that they are a bit on the pricey side. However, the classes are geared and shaped around each program (such as their Criminal Justice program of which I graduated from). Everyone is given enough time (1 week) to get all of their assignments turned in (including posting to the discussion boards, attending the weekly seminars, and any out-side-the-classroom homework). Anyone can go back to school. All you need is patience, a sense of priority, and the ability to organize your time. If a single mother can do it, then just about anyone on this planet can do it.

100% Recommendation for Kaplan U

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT)degree. The instructors were wonderful and very knowledgeable about the field that they are in. My Academic Advisor and Fin Aid advisor were not always available when I call, but there were other advisors in the same vertical that were able to assit me. The courses were up-to-date with the current technology. I gained the knowledge I needed to perform my job. There were may outreach programs after I graduated however; I did not participate because of schedule conflicts. I strongly believe that you get what you put out and if you are serious and apply yourself the sky is the limit. I feel like I can take on the world thanks to the awesome knowledge that I have gained from Kaplan.

Dismissed right before GRADUATION!!!

I have attend Kaplan for three years and right before I was to graduate with my AA in criminal justice they dismiss me for having to retake a couple of classes which I passed the second time around. This was early on in my pursuit of my degree. Sure they will take your money and tell you all you need to do is maintain a 2.0 GPA but it is a lie. I have a 2.16 but I still am not getting my degree. FIND a different school they dont care about your degree all they want is your money. I wasted three year of my life at this school only to be screwed in the end!!!!

Kaplan University - too expensive

I graduated from Kaplan University in 2008 with a BSCJ. The classes were good and informational and the professors were very good. My only problem with Kaplan is that it is VERY expensive compared with other universities. My recommendation to anyone is to check with your state's universities (for instance, if you're from NC, check with the UNC system) to find out if they have online degree programs that match your interests. They WILL be cheaper than Kaplan.

Also, Kaplan's financial advisors suck! It's hard to get in touch with them. Many times I called, they wouldn't return a call or help me out with my problem.

Further, I do have concerns about the reputation of Kaplan University. Many people think it's a diploma mill or a fake university that's running a huge scam.

But overall, I enjoyed Kaplan.

I like Kaplan and when you live in an area that has little or no options for graduate degrees, Kaplan comes in handy. I am not sure what my degree will bring once I graduate but for now knowing that I did have an option for continuing my education I must say Kaplan is great.

I am in my 4th term at Kaplan University, finighing my bachelors degree in Criminal Justics. I have to say, I can't complain about one thing. The Professors are great and they somewhat feel more connected, even though it is online. I have a small child and Kaplan makes it so easy for me to finish my degree, and I have never had better grades in my life. You do have to be disciplined and organized to do well though. I would reccomend KU to anyone who wants to finish their degree!

I just completed one term at Kaplan. I am very pleased with the course work and the professors so far. However, I am very disappointed in the after service you receive once they get your money. I cannot seem to speak to a live person when I need to regarding any questions I might have. My financial aid officer was quite useless, he would not answer a phone call, voicemail, or email. I will add that my academic advisor was some better, she would return my emails and tried to answer my questions. Just be careful when making your final decision to go to Kaplan. You will be fine if don't have any questions or need any help. I will be seriously thinking about switching to a different school this next year. I want to go somewhere that I can get assistance when I need it and they at least appear to care about my problems or issues.

I took classes for 1 term and I have to say the classes were great. They made it very easy to learn and the teachers are knowledgable. Everything about them was above average. The negative.... they (financial/ academic/etc) work rigorously with you and promise you the moon until you sign up and get financial aid. After that you get the run around about the promises of scohalrships, credit transfers, etc.. If all the advisors could get it together this could be one of the best programs out there, however, tread cautiously, could be an expensive mistake.

I have to say that I have been to my fair share of the traditional colleges and have take an online class before. I am in my 3 term at KAPLAN and it is the best choice of my life.

I was nervous about going back to school for several reasons, mainly due to the time I had in my schedule to complete the work. I can study when I have free time. There is a lot of writing assignments but all of my professors so far have given fair amounts of time and help to get the assignments finished.

You have weekly seminars that you interact with the professor and other students (but if you cannot make it you can do the alternative writing assignment). You have discussion questions each week based on that weeks learning assignment. It really gets you thinking and it is great to read someone else's view on the material because it can clarify an area that you may not have understood before.

I have had an excellent time from the beginning. My admissions counselor was wonderful--- we still keep in contact. My academic advisor is great and my financial advisor gets back with me when I ask questions (it may take a few days but you can call in for immediate help).

I would recommend this school to anyone--- My only note is to be prepared to work for your grades. You will feel accomplished when you have that degree in your hand. I know I will!!!!

Criminal Justice

I received my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University and am now working on my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Forensic Psychology. I thoroughly research online education before choosing Kaplan and found that my decision was not one that I regret.

With any online education program, you have to be discipline, organized, and know how to manage your time wisely. I made sure that I gave myself so much time per day to do my work. The great thing is that I have a week to complete all of my assignments without pressure. The professors, academic advisors, and classmates are all wonderful and helpful.

I like the fact that the courses are geared toward the degree I am working on and not stuff that I don't need. I would encourage anyone who is serious and disciplined about online education to choose Kaplan. I have not, in these three years, had an experience that would warrant me to distrust their concern and care for the students that attend this school.

Personal Effect of Kaplan

I have achieved my Bachelors in Criminal Justice through Kaplan and have to say my experience was absolutely WONDERFUL....I was able to study in my home and attend online classes with more than adequate help when I needed it. I am planning on returning for more education and Kaplan is my first choice when considering this new adventure - I simply need to decide which direction to go this time. Thank you all for your help in making me see that even us old broads can succeed in education and the work force....with a little help from our youngsters that are our classmates and instructors as well.

I wonder if they'll post a negative review. It is a sales pitch. You may be able to extend your career with Kaplan but you need to already have decent higher education as it is. For it to be your primary education I wouldn't recommend it. For the average single mother, don't do it. The pressure is extremely, extremely high to sign on the dotted line. They make it sound like it's your savior, but it isn't. They may not get a commission when you sign up but, they get bonus'. It is a loophole to evade illegal admissions practices.

School of Information Technology BS in IT Computer Programming

I enjoyed my online learning experience. In general the professors were very helpful and wanted you to succeed in class. The coursework for me depended on the course. Some classes because of prior background were easy. Some like Discrete Mathematics were hard. Overall I would say the coursework was about right in most cases for the credits you received. Classmates were very helpful and everyone was more than willing to help each other. It definitely prepared me for work in IT as a programmer.
