Kaplan MBA Program

I have completed my first 6 courses of the MBA and I do not use financial aid. This makes all my financial payments easy and not an issue, ever. It seems that the people who have problems with this school are those who use financial aid to pay for the program. I am not sure and cannot say whether things have improved since the past reviews here in this regard.

The courses at Kaplan MBA have been very challenging and there is no room for procrastination. Based on most students working full time while completing the program can maks this much more difficult than a full time MBA student program. This tells me that those who complete this program have to be hard working and dedicated for a full 2 years. That is not an easy task for most.

The professors have excellent real life experience, plus the Phd’s to go along with the credentials. They have all been fair, helpful, available, and guiding throughout. The material has been very well organized and up to date, for the most part. Topics and references are just as good as those on any MBA program. I think you get back out what you put into the program.

Even if you are one of the top students in the country and can actually be accepted into the best schools, and afford those schools, only those who achieve some of the highest grades will get the walk in 6 figure salaries. The rest of us will have to prove ourselves, and work very hard to climb the career ladder.

I am very happy with the program, and only have one complaint and that is some students in the program do not have the same work ethic as I do and when it comes to group projects this can be a bit of a bump to get over. I am sure that you could pay 10 times the tuition at the best schools and still run into the occasional not so team orientated group member.

The material covered is excellent. I really find the use of many articles from the Harvard Business Review to be top-notch tools and the books used are some of the best offered. So, I will continue to complete the program and am actually excited about the knowledge I have gained on every course. It will never close a door and will help to make a better life for sure.

I love the fact that I can be anywhere in the world and complete the program.

It is obvious that a lot of students use financial aid to do the programs and there is no doubt that similar issues can happen at other schools. I know it does not have the reputation of a Harvard or Stanford, but the education is good quality and the MBA is something you will be proud of, especially with how hard you will have to work to attain the degree. If you have the skills this degree will move you up the ladder.

I completed the MBA program in November of 2009. I'm very happy with the learning experience. I've read many negative reviews concerning financial aid at Kaplan. Honestly, my financial aid experience was on par with the Cal State University that I attended for my undergraduate degree.

The one thing that I almost never see while reading Kaplan reviews is how successful MBA graduates are at actually finding jobs once the MBA program is completed. My personal experience regarding this is that job opportunities do increase having the MBA. Will employers be knocking down your door to hire Kaplan MBA graduates? No. Graduates will have to search for jobs like everyone else. One will find however that having the MBA and of course, experience in the desired field, does help aspiring employees to stand out in the crowd.

Student services is not a service to ...

I started at Kaplan last November (2009) and recently completed enough credit hours to move up to sophomore college student. The professors are fabulous and very knowledgeable in the course work, though I have had 1 or 2 that flew through the seminars very quickly.

The academic advisers are very helpful and supportive. If your adviser is not available, there is someone that can answer your questions.

Financial aid and student services really need to get together and communicate more. My issue was after my freshman year I was billed an additional $320.00 for items not covered by my student loan. I received calls daily from student services asking when a good time to set up payment would be. Daily they were told when financial aid returns my numerous calls and emails to explain what these charged were then I would make payment arrangements.

I made a partial payment online while waiting a month for my questions to be answered. My academic adviser finally got me through to financial aid for answers to my questions.

I made arrangements to contact the student service department for total payment. They were given 6 phone calls, none returned, before I made the payment online. The very next day I received another "when can you pay us" call! My original contact called the following day and asked the very same question. The right hand doesn't know what the left is doing!

The education is great, the instructors (for the most part) really care. Pay cash if you can though! Trying to get information or questions answered...it would be easier to find a dentist on Sunday for an emergency tooth extraction!

I am in the search process to find a different school to transfer my credits to and complete my degree, hopefully their student departments are more open with each other and communicate better.

Kaplan MBA graduate

I started at this online university in 2002 before they were a university. It was great at first but as they grew, they had their share of growing pains so yes, some departments were playing catch up.

I got my BBM and my MBA at this college. When I went comparing other universities online and near my home, I had worse response than Kaplan ever gave me.

Discipline and getting work done timely is what is needed on your part to maintain a good gpa.

I rarely had a "bad" professor but I did encounter a few. Mainly they lacked in responses to questions (almost like they didn't know the answers and repeated your question)

When pressured for assistance, help, I had one get disrespectful/offensive after I had to be blunt with him.

Kaplan University Online

I am currently enrolled in the Business program with just two terms left. Kaplan has been disappointing overall. They are difficult to deal with and the financial aid is a joke. My financial aid was cut off after only three terms, and instead of being told I was just given a higher bill. I was able to afford it so I paid the amount, even though it was ten times what I had planned on paying. To top it off they then sent me notices stating that I would be blocked from classes because of issues with financial aid. After months of these emails, in which a response to them was pointless, I was blocked. I called and the advisor was confused about the situation since I did not even have financial aid. Of course, through the whole process I was unable to speak with my assigned advisors and email responses were limited and unhelpful.

If you do enroll, do not plan on ever calling and reaching your advisor as they do not take calls. The system is not even designed for your calls to go through. Instead you must wait for them to call you back.

The professors are not teachers. They are people from the business world. I am not saying this is bad, but I have had some unpleasant conversations with them due to the fact that they do not understand the difference between teacher and some one who understands the subject. Due to the fact that the whole process moves very quickly; it is difficult to resolve things in a timely manner and every move must count. Books have also been a bit of an issue as they still cannot figure out how to properly address the parcels sent out.

If I could transfer without losing too much time I would, but at this point I am just looking to finish as quickly as possible. Be warned and take what the enrollment advisors say with a grain of salt. They are purely looking to close the deal asap and will tell you whatever they need to in order to get you in and enrolled. After that, they do not care and you will not hear from them again. I recommend to anyone enrolling in an online program, look at one affiliated with a brick and mortar campus. Avoid Kaplan if you can and do not get pulled into their deception.
