I am about to begin my 4th quarter at ITT Tech in Nashville. It is wonderful so far, all of the instructers I have had are professionals in the fields they are teaching. Im not going to lie, yes, practically EVERYONE has a 4.0, but i do not feel that my campus is focusing specifically on GPA. I have spoken with recent graduates, and they were satisfied with the outcome. ITT is seemingly VERY focused on helping you build a portfolio (for my program, Visual Communication) and making that resume look as good as possible.

every computer in every lab is equipped with the entire adobe suite, 3DS Max, autocad, Maya, Dark GDK, Raptor, and a ton of additional software for drafting and design. by paying tuition at ITT, you are gaining access to an online library with open access to thousands and thousands of books, custom, one-on-one tutoring with professional people, and access to over $20,000 worth of software, accessable in any lab, any day of the week.

The financial aid is a little messed up, but at ITT, you get back what you put in. I have worked my head off here, and I am beginning to have a portfolio to show it. I have a firm faith that when everything boils down to that interview, my resume and portfolio will do all the talking.

ITT has taught me to maintain a professional demeanor at all times, it has taught me to speak publicall, and to work in a team. On top of that, I have already learned entry-level 3D modeling, Animating, and video production skills. Im not sure about other campuses nationwide, but the one in music city, Tennessee rocks out!

The teacher at the jacksonville school is a joke. One of my teachers was so bad, that she had to sit in on a another class, just to learn to be a better teacher. They give you the round around, the cost to go there for a two year degree is crazy. I hope that they go under real soon. Run the other way from itt-tech.

Summary of ITT experience

History:

• Graduated in 1998 with a Bachelors in Electronics engineering • My first year after graduation I earned $34K

Facts:

• I work for a fortune 100 company • 12 years later my salary has grown to $70K • A degree will help you get in the door at most companies and the rest is up to you • The school curriculum is challenging, however it’s what you put into it • The most challenging classes for me were Calculus and physics • We had lots of homework and team projects • The dropout rate for students that could not handle the curriculum was just over 50% • Just like any educationally intuition there are good professor and bad

Good:

• Some of my classmates were hired by the CIA, FBI, Motorola, Intel, and Hyundai • Two of classmates currently work with me and they are making just as much as I do • One of my classmates is a VP of technology for a company that generates $20Mil a year in revenue • Two other classmates are electronic technician leads and are making $40K a year • The hands on experience that you obtain at ITT can out way just the theory, you will learn at a 4 year college. • I recommend while going to school you work in your field of study

Bad:

• ITT is not Regionally accredited. It is nationally accredited.

I did a 3 month semester ($6384.56), in CEET. The computer training was the History of computers, (like that is what I need to learn and pay for!) the other 2 classes were learning Word and Excel programing, I didn't get much out of this class but a good book. And my math class, A good teacher, but I passed with an A, and I did not know what I was doing, I-TT telling me I don't need a refresher course first, when I clearly did, being out of school 25 years. So I went to another school for math and I am confident they dont pass you just for your money. P.S. my student loan $4903.49 and out of pocket $1481.07 They expect now 6 months after out of there school so $6384.56 for NOTHING.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK before signing anything!

The teachers were little help to me. -Computers

When it first started they gave me a cheesy math class with half writeing, and I learned very little as they would just keep moveing on with stuff. Throw in some little english paragraph class, and a basic intro to pc that was very uninformative.

They will make the class so easy in the begining that you get a high grade. The Math instructor gave out all the answers for the class, and I got an A without knowing anything.

The next one the teacher would just goof off and joke around, and skip material and basically gave the impression that it was not important. Then I get to the actual IT class and the teacher does a hour of talking then throws you in the lab. The thing I see is like this. They just give you some work to do on there computers, and dont even show you anything.

This is the way it works teacher talks, then the other 2 1/2 hours the rest is up to you,, Yhea they will help you, but for maybee 1 minit then move on. I hated it, its not what I thought it was.

I feel like its a rip off. If you know alot about computers, and can learn more,,, do the school. If you dont know anything,,, I wouldent recomend it to anyone but experienced computer workers. At this time, I am about to quit, probobly. I havent learned anything I couldent have found on the internet, or reading a Dummy's Book.

Time for the truth of the matter.

First off let me say that at this point I am researching my options on where to continue my education. And from reading these posts, it seems like many of the negative ones would not be here had they researched in the beginning.

Now, I am lucky enough to have a significant other with a corporate career, and have utilized her contacts to research how ITT is regarded in the IT field. From the information I have received from her contacts, a degree is a degree, and what separates you from everyone else with that same degree is what you choose to do with it.

EXAMPLE, I graduated from ITT and I only make $12 an hour. More than likely, and this was confirmed by the research, you waited until you graduated to look for a job in that field. What you should have done, was look for work in that related field and gained real work experience in that field WHILE attending.

Don't make the mistake of thinking a degree is going to cause companies to throw a job at you. A quote from the head of an IT department at a large corporation states "the field is saturated with people who fixed their parents computer one time and thought they would be great at being an IT specialist."

Everything in life has it's pros and cons. the first step is to actually KNOW, what the career choice you make is going to entail. IT is not just about hooking up computers, you need to be able to write reports, do cost analysis etc, so if your English composition or mathematics are lacking, your not going to make it very far, even with a degree from ITT.

A degree from ANYWHERE shows willingness, what you do to insure you separate yourself from everyone else with the same degree shows determination. So, stop and ask yourself, which one would YOU rather hire?

Real Issue

I am a 2003 grad of ITT Tech with a degree in CEET. In the 7 years since I have graduated I have had a successful career. Not because of ITT but my personal drive. If you are complaining because of your lack of success your maliace is misdirected.

Even with that said I do not recommend ITT because there are community and a state colleges that are cheaper and better respected.

ITT is Nationally accredited, meaning that there is a standard requirements in their curriculum.

So in short ITT grads are as capable as anyone else, but if you are considering to go there the cost is not worth the money. I truly hope this helps!

7th Quarter Student

I'm currently a 7th quarter student and soon to be garduating in Dec. My experiance with this school has been bad a little but most of the time it was good. I've have read some reviews on here and at some I just shake my head at. Most of the complaints come from people who quit after their maybe first week, and some who just basically suck at life in general ny looking for hand-outs.

I agree with the good comments that has been made like "It is what you make it" or " You will only receive what you put into it". If you put in the time and effort and want to learn you will see good results. Now if you BS your way through that would be the result you would recieve.

I had one classmate tell me that his cousin is taking computer Networking at University of North Carolina. Taking basically the same classes we're taking. He said that they are basically theory. They didn't get hands-on they was informed that they wouldn't see what they woulb be working on until the actually get into their field of work.

As Itt students I say ever since our 3rd or 4th quarter we have been dealin with nothing but hands-on activites. Of course, we had to take a bs class like group dynamics or humanities, other classes your learning the ins and outs with Linux OS, Windows servers, Programming. thats just some in the CNS degree.

Poeple think just because your going to school and or have graduated form ITT Tech that jobs are suppose to be thrown at you. I mean like I said you have to put in time and effort, You have to talk to peoplesuch as the career counselor, so he/she will be able to help you with generating a good resume to land a job.

For instance, in my situation. I've been unemployed for 3 1/2 months. I overheard another fellow student talking about they had recieved the help from this person in finding a job. So I took it upon myself to set an appointment to speak with her. the couselor help generate my resume and she even took the liberty of throwing it at a few colleauges that she knew Now I have a job that starts July 26 being a Tier 1 Technical Support technician, No... not a customer service rep. It starts out making 12 an hr. You do the math...It's way better than not recieveing a check.

Its up to you as an individual to make decisions for yourself. Not to join a bandwagon of people that agree on negativity, remember Misery loves Company. The people that write bad reviews tries hard to discourage people because they they never recieved any encouraging words.

Just to futher address one of the reviews on here that I read..I'm not an employee of this school. I do not want or wish to be employed by Itt. I'm a 7th quarter student who will graduates in Dec 2010 with an associates degree in Computer Networking Systems.

ITT is a good school....

I have really enjoyed ITT, it is very friendly and you feel like the staff and faculty is really invested in your success. These people who sit on here and complain are the ones who will never succeed anyway, they are spending all their time on the internet complaining.

ITT has tens of thousands of graduates who are out working in their field. And its not true the the federal government doesn't hire ITT grads. The CIA and FBI have active connections with ITT's career services. So do real research and stop reading these blogs. People who are successful and hard-working don't have time to post complaints online.

Go out and talk to area employers about what they would think of ITT degrees. Remember, a degree is really just a tool to get in the door of a company, your career advancement is almost never based on your degree, but rather on your competence and hard work.

Don't believe Admissions Representatives alone

School not recommended by Bonnie on June 25, 2010
11/15 people found this review helpful

My friend went to ITT and wanted to get a degree. Not knowing what to study, he talked to an Admissions Representative about their programs. He told the representative that he was most interested in gaming.

Unfortunately, there wasn't a class starting in that program the next quarter. The representative assured him that was okay, he could do the software programming Associates first, then do the game design bachelor's degree. What he didn't mention was that he'd also have to take two years of other art/design classes first. That would make his four year degree take 6 years! Apparently, the representative's boss encourages such advising.

If you're going to ITT, do your homework! Speak to the program chair when you visit, or schedule a meeting to ask questions. They won't steer you wrong.

That was a tough lesson for my friend to learn. Did I mention he dropped out without any degrees and a huge debt.

I just started my fifth quarter at ITT in Sylmar, Ca and I have nothing but good things to say. I don't know why people are complaining about the school. Obviously some people don't read the fine print on the contract and all the other paper work handed to them. ITT DOES NOT just hand out degrees.

I have actually worked really hard to get where I am, and it's all thanks to my instructors. All of them have offered tutoring for the whole class. I don't understand why people don't aren't persistent if they are having issues with an instructor or with the school.

I attended L.A. Mission College right out of high school for two years and I was only able to pass a total of three classes because when I asked the teacher for help on the subject, they would direct me to some other teacher for tutoring.

Also, I was never able to get financial aid because my so called counselor was never in, or they told me to make an appointment because they were always on vacation. All of my ITT instructors send me e-mails at least three times a quarter asking how I'm doing in the class and if I am having any trouble understanding the course work.

Maybe it's the program people decide to go into. I have chosen the HIT program and it was recently accredited, so when I graduate I will graduate with an AS in RHIT. All I'm saying is read EVERYTHING before you decide to join ANY school. Not every school or program is for everyone. Also, look what accreditations, credentials, certifications, ect. the school has. If you dont do that before you attend you're pretty much setting your self up to fail.

So Much To Say

School not recommended by idaho ryan on June 19, 2010

there are so many things i want to say i dont even know where to start. i will make it easy for those who dont want to read this entire rant(if you want to call this one).

For people like me thinking about going to ITT Tech i would say that picking your degree is not good enough. you need to decide what you want to do with it, hence where you want to work or at least a general idea of what kind of places you would want to be working for and long story short, CALL THEM!

if you want to see how ITT Tech degrees are holding up in your area then get ahold of companies you think you might want to work for when you graduate and ask them what they think of ITT Tech graduates. if you really want to put your possible diploma to the test then call any companies that are big players in the computer field in your area and get their opinion of graduates from that school.

if they give you a 'heck no' then you will know that the best you will ever do is entry level jobs at entry level businesses. YOU DONT need to tell them that you are hearing a lot of bad things about the school because that will just put bad ideas in their heads for they will already know if they are being an equal opportunity employer by hiring retards from ITT Tech. Just tell them you were interested in the school and you wanted to see how their graduates faired with employment at their company, simple as that.

i recently read all the blogs and web pages listing nothing but bad stuff about the school and dropped out myself but for me it was sheer economics. The classes are way too expensive after looking into community colleges in my area. its not worth it for me if i can not transfer it to a university in case some day i may need to(for one never knows how far they may want to further their education).

i will tell you not to judge it on the teachers for i went to truckee meadows community college and had a few professors who only taught %25 of what was on the tests. the other %25 was common knowledge if you showed up to class and listened where as the other %50 came from books and online research--THE POINT--you must apply yourself or you will either fail and/or go nowhere.

the teachers can not possibly teach and prepare you for everything for every job will be different. i was so sick of the military for that for all they did was train, drill and teach you what to do for a million different circumstances but the stuff that normally happened was completely different otherwise we wouldnt have almost died half a dozen times for we would have been prepared enough to not get that so beloved near death experience multiple times.

thats like asking the guy why he died from getting hit by a frozen turd that fell from a 747 flying overhead---YOU JUST CANT PREPARE FOR THAT STUFF. So if you are looking for a school that will prepare you for your job then you have a decent chance of surviving out there if your lucky enough to pick the right one but if YOU do the work then you will really go somewhere. all you can do is bust your hump and apply yourself and if you get hit by a turd along the way well then at least you tried.

hope this makes sense its only 3:30 a.m. right now.

I've had two classes so far...I'm a little discouraged because in my strategies class the instructor actually entertained the students who didn't know how to come up with common denominators. How in the world did the students who don't know how to handle simple fractions even enter into this "Techy" school?

At this rate what are the students like myself (looking for a high level education) suppose to do to learn advanced stuff? A little concerning. I'm going to go to the financial aid office tomorrow to find out what I'd owe if I left right now...

Im set to graduate in 9 weeks. I'm getting an associates degree in their CEET program. I've had two friends who have attended this school and received the same degree, and they both came straight out of it making 45,000 a year w/benefits. I seem to have a few job offers, and am thinking about attending their 4 year program.

Before attending ITT I went to a local CC, and all I can say is FUCK THEM. People are complaining on here about the teachers and coarses...at least the coarse is set. When you start, they hand you a piece of paper saying, here, this is what your going to take, start to end, and when your done, you get a degree.

Not at a CC, (at least not mine (mott)) They constantly changed their requirements for graduation, and it seemed like the councilors didn't know what was going on.

The teachers I've had have been for the most part great. Ive never had such good math, english, and electronics teachers. Ive had a couple ones that I didn't care for (literally a couple, you know...2) But I feel like ive learned alot. When you go in they tell you that credits don't transfer, its no secret.

Its expensive, and I really don't think CJ is a good idea unless your really dedicated to getting a job and doing footwork...across the country.

I do notice that you can fake your way through it a bit. although i will say alot of people got weeded out at about the halfway point, my class started with around 70 kids, now there's like, 14. I will say there is one guy in my class that doesn't know a whole lot, he crutches off his friends.

I will be updating when I graduate, I'm going to start applying for jobs this next week, I'll let you know how it goes.

I signed up for ITT in 2008 after returning from Germany (ex-military). I was told that there would not be any problems because I was out of the country for so long. They asked for my info for finanical aid, I gave them everything they requested.

After a year they need more info so I gave them that also and it just kept on going down hill after that. I was locked out of classes for 2 weeks then let back in only to be locked out again that they can say,"Hey you attended class so you must pay for it even if it was only 2 minutes". Don't fall for this school under no condistions no matter how bad you what get an education. Don't touch you'll get burned.

I have always been interested in Criminal Justice. While i was in high school that is what i knew i wanted to do. So i decided to go to ITT tech i read it was easy, fun,you make money and all the good stuff you want to hear and it was close to home so that was a plus.

NOw i have completed 4 quarters and since the day i have started attending that school o was skeptical i am a 20 year old female i would have to say it was the worse decision i have ever made.

Not only is it majorly expensive and you have to be careful how you use your money they just take it and steal it and they dont even care about you they dont care about if you pass your classes or your future. It is just all around bad. I was trying hard to look for good reviews to continue my education at ITT. But the truth is there is no education at ITT Tech.

I am sad to say I am foolish for wanting to take the easy route and now im about 14,000 dollars in depth and have to start all over again. A lot of students there dont like it there many just want to finish and see where it takes them but not me I am tired of all of it and wont waste my time anymore.

Im ready to learn go to a real college and earn my grades and its not burning my pocket. If you decide you want to go to itt just be carefull dont do it because once you get there you will regret it for the rest of your life. sad sad sad

I attended ITT this past quater. I really loved the course work online, but I was saddened after enrollment -THEY DO NOT TELL YOU. It is only Nationally accredited. Course work will not transfer to a Junior College, State University, PLEASE understand most employeers will not hire you unless the college is REGIONALLY accredited!

The Federal Government and the State Governments will not hire you with an ITT DEGREE...They only accept a degree from a Regionally accredited college or university. ITT has not proven itself to the National College Board to be successful in its teachings. If you attend and get a National Accreditation DEGREE from ITT you will not be able to use it for a JOB...How are you going to pay off the large debt of a STUDENT LOAN...

Believe me...I went for 1 QUARTER and now I am left with a $6,000 debt with a Student loan..about $500 per credit hour (3 Courses) at 4 Credit hours each....

i had the first interview a couple days ago, i do have to recognize that the school is somewhat expensive, I am actually applying for financial Aid, I might just take the chance and see if the school is a fit for me, I was atually advised that i could just pay for a month and see if it is the school i am looking for, so i am willing to give it a chance and then determine in my own if this is the best for me or not.

ITT Tech is not for everyone. I have been there a year and I feel like its a waste of my money, there are people there that will get a degree and mess things up for people like me that have learned something. The teachers are egotistic jerks and are more into the girls than teaching the class. Every once in a while you will find a good teacher. I think in any school you go to, its the students responsibility to learn as much as possible. ITT Tech hasnt found me a job but I have found that jobs take me more serious that I am in school.

Please save yourself the money and go someplace else. I am not speaking as a spurrned student who got bad grades or anything, I speaking as someone who knows from experience how horrible a corporation this place is!

They are the least respected place in acedemia (if you are generous enough to consider this for-profit company in acedemia a all) and you're "degree" you'd be buying will be a JOKE to ANYONE who would look at your resume...therefor, this is a complete waste of money!!!

This place makes their money from people unlike yourself who are not smart enough to read on-line review before giving their tuition. Go somewhere else, anywhere else!!! Seriously, a community college is like Harvard compared to this place. If I were an HR rep and had two candidates for a job, and one person had just a GED, and the other had an education from ITT (or any school associated with ITT), I'd hire the person with a GED.

This is simply speaking, all that is wrong with the education system. The people who work there should be ashamed of themselves!

I'm quite surprised to see all of these knowledgeable students so surprised to learn of the curriculum offered by ITT Tech. You do not sign a contract to attend ITT Tech. The professors at the Pittsburgh campus have master's degrees from the best schools in the country. Before you decide to attend any school past high school, you need to make that choice to attend the school. Nobody forces you to choose ITT Tech, and in many cases your local community college may be a more affordable option.

I would be interested to learn which schols the reviewers who claimed to have 'left" ITT Tech after one semester are attending at the present time. Why did you not choose your present school initially?

ITT Tech serves a purpose for those unable, for whatever reason, to pursue a four year degree.

My good friend works for ITT and we have long talks about her guilt for bringing weak students. You can get a nursing degree at a 4 yr state school in your home state for about 30 grand, but ITT charges 50 grand for a degree only good with their partners.

If you do get a job paying $12/hr ($23,000)it is not enough to cover your student loans of 80 grand and job paying that little will not cover the interest. The Department of Ed is looking at these programs.

The cooking schools are worst. I graduated from real college twice with only 15 grand of debt because of GI Bill but took some loans help with Masters. The electronics school is what get the respect, but most IT jobs do not need degrees, but certifications.

I don't know what to think....

School not recommended by High School All Over Again on May 25, 2010

I am currently going to ITT in Fl and I really don't know what to think. I read all these reviews (good and bad) and I have to say I see both sides. In currently in the CJ program and I have to say that you need nothing more then a brain to be here. Now I'm not saying you have to be smart but that you at least need to know how to function in society so what.

I haven't really learned anything here but I can see how older people are. I'm an '06 high school grad and the classes here are nothing short of common sense.

The College Math I class DID NOT go any higher that the 11th grade. I learned nothing seeing is how I ARLEADY DID IT IN HIGH SCHOOL!

I had to take a class about Criminology, in which we did not once go over any theories. I also had a class to learn how to write up police reports. The text book had 47 spelling errors in the first chapter alone. 47!! And the book was supposed to teach us how bad it would look on everyone if there was ever a mistake in a report.

I took Criminal Investigation class where we got a finger print kit along with the class. The only reason it was because it fell off the seat in my car and popped open. Not once had I ever used it in class.

Now the English II class, all we 'learned' how to do was write a 5 paragraph essay... That was it.

I don't even what to begin to imagine what the loans are going to look like... I'm a Female and my student loan adviser pretty much said that I have to get knocked-up to get help from financial aid. I told the Dean about it and he said that there was no way that was said and I was making things up.

Now my GPA is a 3.92 and I've made all A's with the exception of 2 B's. I don't know how I did it to be honest but then again I've never really taken Finals or had much homework. I never really opened a book and I don't feel as if I need to. I'm not saying I'm a genius or anything like that I'm just saying that there has got to be something wrong here.

I was looking forward to coming to the school but now I don't even know what I want to do with myself anymore. I was hoping to enjoy getting into CJ but now it seems a waste. I feel as if I should be ashamed that I'm paying this much for going back to a school that is nothing more than another high school.

Now with all of that said, the only upside that I found to the school is the teachers. Most of them are there to help you and they will. Some are really just there for the money but you are going to find that anywhere.

If it wasn't for the teachers I'm sure I would have dropped a long long time ago but with only 3 semesters left I don't think it will make a difference anymore.

I read these negative things posted from other students, and I am shocked. I have always worked really hard at obtaining my degree. I have learned a lot of things from ITT-Tech. If you are not learning anything it is not their fault, it is yours. That is the whole point of going to school online.

It is your job to read, study, and learn what they are teaching you. Let me tell you something else, the do not just hand out A's, I have gotten a couple b's and a C on one of my courses before. SO I don't know where you are getting they just give out a's. Maybe you knew how to do the work but afterwards you forgot your information because you didn't actually read through the chapters.

You say the went through the course to fast, but you know that when you sign up how long each class is. I just want to say ITT tech is going to save my life by their hard work and dedication to providing me with an education. The proffesors are great and know what they are talking about and do a great job. I have never had any problems with ITT-tech in the last 6 years of attending off and on (had two daughters in between).

Enrolling is easy and they order all your books for you, you don't have to worry about it. Anyways, if your not able to obtain the information being provided I do not think it is right to go and play the blame game because whenm you are pointing your finger at someone else, you have four more pointing back at you!

This is a classic reason why people should not got to ITT Tech, they can not even write a clear, well organized, spelled right, argument on why people should go to ITT Tech. If you are going to write something on college, and you are in college [your case ITT], then write like an educated college student!

The school is not one that holds high standards- as that can be seen by the person who wrote “What do you expect?” Also, “The Real Inside Story” sums things up about ITT Vs. Real college real well. PS I am not trying to start anything!
