When speaking to the director everything sounded so good. I was ready to get started to college. My math classes I had to take costing a lot of money were classes I took in my junior year of high school 2 years ago. Classes were from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Every night class was over at 8:30pm. I paid for a 4 hr. class not 2 1/2hrs. My second math class it took them 4 weeks to get me registered by then the class was taking mid-term exams. I went to the school for 4 weeks no one would help me get registered, but they did charge me $2280.00 for the class. It took me 6 weeks of calling,e-mail and personal visits with the dean to finally get my refund back. "Do Not" I repeat, "Do Not consider Devry for your educaton. "Nightmare!"
thank you for all your reveiws

I am at the Devry location in Colton, California. Iam already financially cleared, classes printed up...the whole nine yards, to start class on Monday. It is fryday right now, 2:22pm. Iam now going to finish typing and walk out of this computer room and withdraw from this school. I believe that what most of these reviews have stated is true. I so desperately need an education though. Iam poor and can not afford to go to school like real students do, you know at a university or community college, not only because of the time because of a need to work but also cause I need to make real money NOW! Sorry the economy is realy bad and I have a child..and well.I thought this would have been a door way to my dreams. I have to cancel my admission..even though I do not know what to do. I am terribly sad.

If you need someone to hold your hand and treat you like a toddler while in school, then Devry is absolutely not for you. I have been at Devry for four semesters now and I don't have anything negative to say. When I went for the enrollment interview, I was told upfront how much the education would cost, and what was required of me. The lady who I spoke with was very nice. And now I just deal with her soley if I have any questions. While I take a few classes online, I take most at their Bellevue, WA location. In some classes I have met students who worked at Microsoft and Boeing. To the best of my knowledge I am pretty sure that the people who teachers the subjects there are professionals in their fields so they are able to really provide first hand knowledge on a subject. At a course home page under the "Student Resources" tab all you have to do is click it and it will take you to your personal account where your financial aid, student loans, grades, and all other pertinent information relating to you is located. The classes at Devry are rigorous and you do have to work very hard to maintain a good grade (lots of reading and writing) A nice thing I also like about Devry is the job fairs they host about twice a year. And so for the people who claim that Devry is a joke, just admit you are disgruntled and I am sorry your experience was not as favorable as mine.

This school will tell you they don't have open admission because of the high demand for their school. They lie. They haven't stopped calling, 1-4 calls a day for over a month. I obviously am not going to answer and am already attending another school. If they weren't desperate they wouldn't be calling.

I entered DeVry in the summer of 2002 with the intention of finishing within 18 months. I have a significant amount of technical background and wanted to test out of the majority of the technical requirements. The recruiters assured me that there would be no problem with this plan and the tests would be available as soon as I wanted them. This was lie #1. After a semester, I was informed that I couldn't take the test for a course until it had been taught at the Ft. Washington location. Semesters passed and, after numerous requests, I finally began to get tests. This was after a full year had passed. Meanwhile, they gradually introduced the idea of working in group projects which was total BS. They claim that somehow you can get a good grade if some lamebrain in your group doesn't fulfill their end of the project. Another lie. So after struggling to complete the battery of tests and 6 years later, the financial aide people decide to join the fracas. They claim - in November - that "computer problems" are holding up the March and July financial aid distributions. This comes from a university teaching computer engineering and business administration. Ok, so I am crippled by financial hardship because of the lack of financial aid and have to withdraw from a class. Then they deny me the financial aid from July because I don't have sufficient credits in February; Credits I would have successfully completed if I had the financial aid back in July. OK, so now the end is close - after 7 years - nearly done. But no, you have to do on line classes. What a joke. They are not classes on line but discussions about whatever the subject might be. How do you discuss differential equations? Add to that the "students" use the discussion threads to spout their particular brands of racism, ignorance, and intolerance like its their own private blog. The instruction is non-existent on-line and overall it's just a waste of time and money. Do yourself a big favor and go to a community college. DeVry is a glorified tech school and the degree and education you get is of dubious value. For me it was seven years wasted for no good purpose.

The advisors are very good at making you think that starting classes with them and them only is the best decision you will ever make in life.I recently enrolled for classes with Devry online. To start with, the enrollment process is that of pulling teeth. Faxing this and that, emailing sensitive documents, and receiving numerous calls from different departments of the program is what you should expect.
I realized I made a huge mistake when the "finance department" gave me a call and told me how much it was. They make sure they do this part last. By then, I was already enrolled and awaiting the student loans to go through. I found out it was a whopping $535 per credit hour! Unbelievable right? So for the two "introductory classes", it was close to $1500. The semester had not started so I decided that this was not the program for me. I told them I changed my mind and thats when the sales pitches started to play. I then thought, ANY SCHOOL THAT BEGS YOU TO STAY WITH THEM, can't be good news. They tried everything! I was transferred to THREE DIFFERENT "DIRECTORS OF DEVRY" that told me I was making a huge mistake. I stood my ground. They told me that they would withdraw me before the student loans came through. Two weeks passed by and I was curious if they had actually withdrew me from the school, so i called. I explained to one of the admissions officers my situation only for her to have told me that nothing had been done and nobody did what they said they would do. At this point, I'm thinking they are trying to take the money and run. Luckily, I never logged in to the classes online. They were about to receive $3000 dollars from the loan company. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CRAP TO ANYONE. Really think if this is something you want to do.
Oh, and if you do the research, the graduation rate of students that attend this program is only 33%. MAKE SURE YOU RESEARCH!

Ok I have been going to DeVry now for over a year online as where I live is a rural area and the colleges here do not offer my degree, I am also a full time wife and mother so I cannot commute or move. So far in the past year or so Financial Aid had lost my paperwork a total of 20 times. Each session I get to verify again, this takes them weeks to do we are now going into week 7 and they have lost everything again that I sent them four weeks prior to classes starting. These financial aid advisers are about as dumb as a box of rocks. They wont tell you anything, they have no idea where my paperwork went they can see where they received it but no one can tell me what happened to it. I resubmit it by fax and by email and they get it a week later it still has not been sent over for processing, I have a class starting in just over a week and am being told because they screwed up I may have to pay for not only the class I am in now but the class coming up. No way in hell am I paying for that when my student loan more than covers it by over 1000. The classes are great they are quick and easy so far at least to me. However, their financial department is the worst I have ever seen. These idiots have no idea what they are doing, I wonder how they even got their jobs. I actually had to add some figures up for one of the financial aid employees because she could not figure out how things all added up so I went over it with her step by step when I was done she understood my figures and agreed they all made sense. If they do not fix their financial department i have a feeling they will loose a lot more students. Go to Devry if you want to live in a nightmare if not then stay away.

The "teachers" have no interest in whether you understand something or have a question. Zero help and interaction with someone who could answer questions regarding the assignments. They will promise you anything and everything to get you to sign up, but they basically just take your money and run.

Stephen King couldn't have wrote a story more horrifying then my expierance at Devry U. I had the finance dept. jerking me around for so long that i missed the class registration deadline. My financial "advisor" informed me of how much money i should take out on a private loan to continue school. Then someone else within the same building tells me that I dont have enough. One winter I had taken a snowboarding trip and was injured. The hospital told me I didnt have insurance, and I was charged approximatly $2,000. I had signed up for student insurance just three weeks prior to the snowboarding trip. Now, a year later, I am looking at my statement of account, and it shows that I paid for student insurance during that winter period. Devry is fraudulent.

I am almost done with my MBA and already got three interviews with colleges for teaching positions. All schools have good and bad about them. I had a few problems but they were easy to solve. DeVry is well known and not just for IT don't let people tell you differently.

I personally LOVE DeVry. I am a "Non-Traditional" student, that is, I am 41, married, have a full time job and a family. DeVry online allows me the flexibility to attend class on my schedule. You still have to follow the class pace which is quite fast (16 weeks compressed into 8). You must do a lot of work and it is not easy. This is, after all, University-level work. I have managed to maintain high grades (Electronics Engineering)and have recently been named to the Dean's List. I believe you get out of it what you put into it. My only complaints are that it is very expensive and I do not like the electronic format of the books.

I have really enjoy my experience with DeVry, although it is expensive (as most schools are) I believe that you get an excellent quality education. I do my classes online because its easier for my hectic lifestyle I can only give my point of view from that aspect. While all schools have their issues DeVry works best for me. Its also a good plus that DeVry have life long job services, truely a great feature in this economy.

My experience in DeVry was good. Since I hate semester length classes, DeVry offers classes due in 8 weeks which is pretty good length for me. When I have questions, I email to professor and they answered me in a timely matter; since English is my second language so typing is better than speaking to me (they usually provide their phone number too).
However, the technical support team in DeVry is quite slow. They reply my mail in a week. Which is already 1/8 length for the class. Moreover, I hate the advisors team always call me in the early morning (I am in PST, and they are in East coast) that woke me up. I understand they were just for confirming that I receive their answer and get what I want, but.... just hate that.
Usually, classes need to post 3 posts in 2 discussion threads, 6 in a total. assignments always due on Sundays. One thing I don\'t like is they require high school certificate and I don\'t know why they have to call my high school in Hong Kong. I moved to United States for 8 years and they scared the high school; the headmaster there called my home in Hong Kong, luckily my parents are still living there but they got many question marks on their heads. Maybe other private schools are like that, or maybe it was just me. I don't know.

Devry works for me. I was out of school for almost 12 years before getting back into it. My overall experience with Devry is very good. I'm taking online classes as well as going to the institution twice a week. I've experienced problems with brick and motar schools who made mistakes on my financial aid and class schedule. So it's not Devry, problems can occur with any top tier school as well. I recommend you go and check out the school for yourself. Devry has thousands of students and I'm quite sure each one will give negative and positive feedback. IT'S UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL!!

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE ENROLLING IN DeVRY!
I decided I needed to go back to finish my Batchelor's so I made an appointment with an admissions rep at the Alpharetta, Georgia campus. I explained that I am a single mom of a 4 year-old, and I work 50+ hours a week so online was the only way I could go. I had attended 3+ years at the University of Gerogia already, so I was expecting that I would not need much more to finish.
After obtaining and reviewing my transcripts, I was told that going part-time I would have a year and a semester left to finish and obtain my degree. It was estimated that I would need to spend about 3-4 hours online a week per class, and I would have to take 2 classes to start. I decided I could handle that and asked to be registered for classes.
I have now finished my first semester, and to truly obtain an education and not just "get by" it takes about 3-4 hours A NIGHT. I did end up with a 97 in one class and a 95 in the other, and I really earned the grades. I went to meet my advisor to determine what classes I needed next semester, and she told me I had TWO AND A HALF YEARS LEFT, not the year and a semester. I became very angry and told her that I did not agree to this time or financial committment. I have been sending daily emails and have had one lengthy phone conversation with DeVry. Basically, what I have been told so far is, "oh well, this is what is required and we can't change it." I was also told that _I_ must have misunderstood. I hardly think so, I am a member of Mensa and I am almost 40 years old. Let me assure you, I have my act together.
I cannot commit to 2.5 years, so now I just wasted 8 weeks. Eight weeks of beng up past midnight almost every night, just to wake up at 5am for work. Eight weeks of having no really time with my daughter. Eight weeks of committing myself fully to this education. I also have a huge debt for my financial aid that I have to repay, with NOTHING to show for it. Even if they refund the money to the financial aid company, there is always extra money that the school gets that they send to the student (an incentive, I guess). It may seem like easy money, but this is $3000 that needs to be paid back at 6% interest! I am lucky that I have most of it still sitting in my account, but many would get the check and go crazy with it.
DO NOT BELIEVE DeVRY! You are going to have to pay twice as much as they say, and devote twice the time. No matter what you are told, it will change once you are enrolled! I believe that the positive reviews here ARE written by DeVRY employees. There have to be better schools out there, just do the homework.

So I was going to Devry for about 6 months, And it was a cluster f*** but you know I wanted to keep going because I had already built up a small debt after being there for even that short of time ( I was getting grants and financial aid). So I mean it was a cluster f*** even trying to get to go there.. they lost my highschool diploma transcript like 5 times... and then once I started going my financial aid got frozen about 4 times within 6 months of going there.... BUT the thing that really has set me off is the fact that I signed up for a class and then I had some RL issues come up so I called my financial advisor at "devry" and she told me to withdrawl from it.. but guess what.. as soon as i withdrawled from that class .. Devry contacts me and says I have to pay them for that class i withdrawled from before it started and for all the expenses for all the classes i took before that were not covered by financial aid.. what a joke...

Unless you received a degree in IT & Computer Science, DeVry is still regarded as a joke by employers.
Unfortunately, you don't find this out until you go looking for a job and DeVry is dismissed by employers as an overpriced and illegitimate child of the real university world.
I spent $75,000 for a degree that isn't worth half its cost, if anyone is willing to hire you in the first place.
Save your money while going to a real university that has legitimacy in the work world.

I have really enjoyed my experience with DeVry, although it is expensive I believe that you can get an excellent quality education.
I have also had my issues with the finance department, but with a little patience I was able to get past them in a timely manner. Weather you are in a state school, or community college you will always run into finance issues that is just the nature of it all. I am also a firm believer in you get what you pay for.
I do my classes online because its easier for my hectic lifestyle as a military wife and mother who is constantly moving around the country. I can only give my point of view but I recommend this school for all who is serious and not faint at heart for a serious education that fits into their lifestyle. While all schools have their issues DeVry works best for me.
According to the stats of it all, you only really hear feedback from people who are upset and disgruntle because of something that we all go through at some point in our education Mostly people who are happy with their experience move on to better things and do not dwell on the bad parts. Just because it is online does not make it immune to the regular admin mistakes.
also keep in mind that DeVry have life long job services and the teachers are people who currently work in the field they teach or have retired as Executives and such. Not hateful teachers who was not able to succeeded in their field of choice. You are always able to tell by their teaching technique.
I hope that you are able to make the best choice for yourself and not just based off what disgruntle failures have to complain about. Go to the campuses and talk to the students, speak to the teachers, in the end you will be happy you got both sides of the tale.

Just read the other reviews and you don't have to guess how DeVry admin treats their students. I'm currently enrolled in a technology course and they are in the middle of structuring their online courses. Causing me to miss a full semester of class. If you really want to try an accredited college, go somewhere else. These reviews are a warning for you.

HAHAHA you lazy suckers thought you could go to school online and take the easy route, eh? There are going to be problems whether you are going to school online or in person. People are going to mess up your money - that's why you count your change at the store. People are going to mess up your paperwork, that's why H&R block guarantees your audits. Life isn't easy and school isn't either. My husband and I are graduating next semester! Devry is an accredited school and I'm going on to physical University to get my Masters next year! Where are you? Still crying about Devry at your community colleges?

I attended Devry back in the summer of 2007. After a couple of semesters of working extremely hard to maintain a good grade I received a letter from Devry explaining that the financial aid could not cover all the cost of my tuition so I should take out a private loan for the remainder of $1,500.00 for the first two semesters. I did not qualify for a private loan, so I decided to drop out of classes before I got too far into debt. I tried to get help from the staff at the school, but could not get anyone to return my calls and then before I knew it I was getting threatening letters that they would turn me over to the collection agency.
When I was finally able to speak to the Corporate office Rep at the Illinois office, she was nothing but rude on the phone and would not let me get in a word. She threatened to hang up on me because I kept insisting that she listen to my story. I've been wrestling with this for almost 2 years now and now I'm getting calls from the collection agency. I explained to the agency that I've been trying to get this resolved for a long time now but cannot get any of my calls returned. I've been calling every day for the past week and leaving messages but cannot get anyone to return my calls. I am so disappointed in Devry and I will never recommend them to anyone because it is such a hassle to deal with anyone.

Devry is dishonest and incompetent. I knew their job better than they did. Due to their lies and lack of knowledge, I have been left with a balance being owed directly to them, which they sent to a collection agency because THEIR employees never answered my calls or returned my phone calls. The financial aid department is horrible. Don't trust them. In addition, when complaining about an instructor or some other issue, they did not seem to care or listen, even if a whole class complained.

I made the supreme mistake of attending Devry University here in San Diego for one semester, almost 1 year ago in March of 2008.
I was quoted $50,000.00-$60,000. for a 3-year bachelors program in computer science but all of that turned out to be nothing but a sales pitch.
The bills started arriving in the second week of class and for a part-time semester, the first bills were over $5000.00! This would mean a full time semester at Devry is over $10,000.00 which makes $30,000.00/Year times 3 = $90,000.00. But wait, there's more! They add on a bunch of mysterious fees for books and supplies that you never receive.
And then, also in the second week of class, the admissions advisor informed me that she had made an error in calculating my loan information and it turned out that I was not eligible for 100% financing after all, (as she had told me on day #1) and that if I wanted to go to Devry full time that I would need to pay several thousand dollars per semester out of my own pocket in addition to the $3750.00 per semester they were already getting in federal Stafford loans, (which I have to repay of course).
It only took me one course and one semester to see the writing on the wall. The good news is that I went immediately to San Diego City College where I will be completing my Associates degree in computer engineering at a major fraction of the cost of what it would have cost at Devry.
But the Devry debacle, although a single semester, still continues to plague me.
After I left there I could not get any further student financing of any kind since Devry was holding my transcript hostage for a balance due of over $1000.00. I missed out on free federal grant money to the tune of $4500.00/semester for 3 semesters since Devry refused to provide my transcript.
Finally, in frustration, I took Devry to small claims court here in San Diego which is cheap and easy to do. I won a judgment against them for $6500.00 and I am filing a second case for an additional $7500.00. But Devry is fighting me all the way of course and has yet to pay a dime, although I did finally get my transcript released although it took almost 1 year. I finally received my transcript on February 4th 2009!! It took that long to force Devry to give it to me thereby creating huge financial problems in my own life.
I will continue to pursue retribution against Devry for my losses as long as I can. I have filed complaints with many government agencies which do not seem to be able to help so far, but if anyone has any further ideas or would like to know about how to file a case in small claims court then just let me know.

I went to Devry University for three semesters, and after my third semester and after making the deans list I was accused of cheating with another student. Me and the other student who happened to be my roommate did nothing more than help each other out and did our projects together. Devry never contacted me to get my side of the story, and automatically gave me a zero. Attempts to get this corrected fell on deaf ears. Devry cares only about getting your money - there financial dept is even worse. Skip Devry, its very expensive and They DO NOT care about their own students. I decided to leave Devry after they falsely accused me of such a serious matter.
