When I first started going to Ashford, I was a year out of high school and found myself sleeping in the parking lot at my local college instead of going to class, I hated getting up at the butt crack of dawn and having to wait hours between classes. My research into an online school landed me at Ashford.
When I first started everything was great. I never had an issue with financial aid, getting textbooks or anything. However after 9 months, I got lazy and wasn't logging on to do my assignments like I should and I failed my class. THIS WAS MY FAULT, I had to pay back the money for that class. I didn't sign back up right away because I decided to join the military and explore other options.
After BCT and AIT, I got back into the workforce and didn't put a thought into going back. When I found out I was pregnant and had to quit my civilian job because they couldn't allow me to have the breaks I needed because I was high risk, I decided that this was the perfect time to go back to school to keep me busy. When trying to start back up, I had one admissions advisor who kept telling me I NEEDED these certain papers, that I didn't have, so I gave up. About two weeks after that I got a call from another admissions lady, that once I explained she apologized about the previous lady, and was able to get me back into school in two weeks.
Besides filling out about four or five forms and filling out my FAFSA yearly, I don't have to deal with paperwork. You just have to stay diligent when it comes to assignments and attendance. As in READ their policies.
My only complaint about the school, is actually the students. They aren't utilizing the tools they have and don't read assignments properly so it sometimes makes it hard to respond to their discussions or understand what they are trying to say.
If I was able to have a baby and not drop a class or it affecting my grade then there really shouldn't be an excuse for anyone else not being able to attend the classes like they should or not complete assignments. I love this school, especially now that they have an app that I can use from my cell phone to log into school.

You are able to do word search in the book. Which worked excellent, but many questions in the assignments are regurgitated from former classes and much of the info is not in the books. I brought this up to multiple teachers with examples but the only response I got was they would pass it on to the higher ups.
,p>You can buy all your homework and assignments online so you don't actually have to do any work, and for discussions you don't have to read you can just re word the last persons response which you have to read so you can respond in someway to what they are saying. When I finally withdrew they withdrew me late and made me pay for 2 classes I didn't take and my call was placed before the first one started. All the time I called, no one picked up, I e-mailed with no answer and left voice mails with no response.
If you are going to withdraw they stop caring about you immediately and if you try to fight about those classes they will not transfer any of your other classes to other schools either. Couldn't afford those classes out of pocket and this pretty much stripped me of going back to school.

I have attended a number of schools in my military career. Because of all the moving, I had to continuously transfer from school to school. Once I heard about Ashford and how close the campus was to me, I started attending school. I completed a BA and a MAOM which I received a 3.9 GPA. The reason I chose an online school versus a traditional school (mind you Ashford does have an actual campus) was the fact that balancing work and family was my main priority. The courses are only 5 weeks and YES you can learn something if you actually read!!!! In a traditional school setting, most people would agree that you lose focus about 30 minutes into class, these courses force you to read. Also, I liked the fact that the campus was only 45 minutes away from my house; employers around here knew where I got my education from and how reputable Ashford is.
I have to say, after completing a number of years with this school, I really have not had any issues with the money. I have seen some of the reviews of how people have had issues, but 9 out of 10 times it is because the student did not do something correct on their end. For example, adding classes, dropping classes, not filling out the proper paperwork etc., yes, can slow the process up, but my recommendation is this, once you start don't stop!!! The people who say they had problems are probably the ones who blame all their issues on others and never take responsibility for their own actions…… Remember, this school has been doing this for awhile, they understand the benefits and how to process those benefits, and so you have to use common sense when you read some of these negative posts.
All but one of my academic advisors was very helpful, and for the one, I got rid of her by requesting another. They provided me guidance on what courses of action would work for me and would get back to me within 24 hours of an email or call. Remember people, if you're truly dedicated to your education there are a number of schools to attend. For me, this worked best because they are regionally accredited and are military friendly. By the way, I have a number of job offers that pay over $70,000 a year when I retire from the Army

I received my BA in early childhood education in the fall of 2011. The whole process was very easy and convenient for me being that I am a mother of three and have a full time job.
The quality of instruction was great my professors were always available when I had a question or a concern. Financial aid services were not a problem they were very helpful you have to be on top of things and do your part, people can't sit back and expect others to do everything for them. I plan to return for my MA sometime in the near future.

I received a BA degree from here in October 2012. I hear a lot of complaints, but I have had no problems.
You have to stay involved with your school work and financial aide. If you put in the work and you will do great. Online courses isn't for everyone. I had to work hard and I am continually working hard. I would recommend this school.
