I requested information from these people, and now they call me AT LEAST once a day, and have been for weeks. I have taken to just answering and saying stupid things to them, which is really immature, but hilarious.

I wish I had read most of these reviews before I enrolled in Ashford. Most of the instructors where not very helpful at all. I called them many times about them but no one ever called me back. But once I stopped going too school they called me daily so that they could get paid. It seems like they were all about the money and nothing more. Run while you can !!!

This school has helped me to graduate faster, pay less, and to continue my education after just having a baby girl! I come to realize that nobody is perfect and no school is perfect. If all you do is complain and speak negatively because of a simple mishap, or situation that could be resolved in a timely matter, I think you probably need to start looking at yourself to be the problem. Ashford Rocks!!
GO FOR IT!!!!

I just read some of the scathing reviews about Ashford and I really laughed out loud. The Professors are the BEST and most helpful I have ever encountered. I went to San Francisco State University years ago and decided to complete my education on-line. It is one of the best decisons I have ever made. I believe that most of those nay sayers just do not want to do the work. There is a lot of work involved and if you cannot keep up with it go elsewhere. I love it here and I am almost done.

Ashford University doesn't do right with the student's financial aid pell grants. I think that Ashford holds pell grant money as long as they can in order to draw interest off of it for their own purpose. Pass the money out to the students who were qualified for it! Ashford is a joke! If you sign up you'll see...

For all of you that have had a good experience "so far". Yoouuu just wait, it's coming. Is there reviews anywhere telling those of us that are attending about anyone who has actually gotten good jobs after attending Ashford? Good experiences are great (if you had one), but where are the jobs? I have not read about anyone that has a CEO or an executive job in a large firm yet. BECAUSE THEY DON'T EXIST. At least not coming from Ashford anyway. I was recommended by a friend and it is a nightmare. I have never attending a school that enrolls you first before they are sure they'll receive any money. I am currently attending but I don't think it is the best choice. I am paying my own way and my grades are good, but I can't get help from anyone. I am in my fifth class and have had four financial aid advisors none of which have helped me. I applied for financial aid and I have just recieve my pell grant email (not award letter)just the email. I can't afford it anymore. After writing the director of financial aid and telling them I can no longer afford to pay for school, I, magically, got a email saying I would be getting a grant. I been here for six months paying my way and now I get this news. Wow, so has this money of mine just been laying around for six months for a rainy day or is SOMEONE EMBEZZLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all keep your expectations realistic. No school is going to just let you turn in work whenever you want! No school will refund your money after you have taken most of the class. Many refunds are issued only before 3 days. Don't complain about poor instructor and grades if your review does not even use correct grammar. For the first class you have an enrollment advisor, then you get your academic advisor. Finally, finacial aid is a nightmare no matter what school you go to. The school does not handle your loans so they cant help you. I have enjoyed my time at Ashford. I graduated from a 4 year college and the work is comparable. Try reading reviews from people who actually know what to expect from a college. Many Freshmen dont last the first semester at colleges everywhere and that is because their expectations are unrealistic. Many of these reviews seem to be from people who wouldnt have made it at any school.

Had I known that Ashford University was corporately owned, I would have ran as far and as fast as I possibly could have when enrolling for online classes. I've had so many negative experiences, I don't even know where to start.
First of all, my admissions counselor was pushy and full of it and himself. He didn't listen to one word that I said, and basically told me what I wanted to hear just to get me to enroll. After that point, he was unreachable. Didn't respond to any emails or phone calls.
After my third class, I found out that Penn State University now has a "World Campus" that hosts online classes. I was so excited because of how reputable Penn State is. I wanted to transfer. Upon announcing my desire to transfer, all of a sudden - I owe this incredible balance because I completely "exhausted" my financial aid. They told me I was completely packaged and I wasn't. I currently owe them $1400 because of their screw-up. I desperately tried to speak with anyone regarding this issue, and all that resulted was unanswered emails and unreturned phone calls. I was furious.
I have filed with the BBB and have wrote a letter regarding this issue to the Department of Education. I work in post-secondary education - and I know they've done wrong.
Save yourself the heartache and stress. Do deep research into any online program you'd like to start. Don't get in knee-deep like I am. I'm making it a personal goal to tell everyone I possibly can to stay AWAY from Ashford University.
I think it's a crock they even receive Federal funding.
I would recommend Ashford University

I am currently enrolled in Ashford University's on-line program for my Bachelor's Degree.
I realize that learning is a personal experience, and what is a satisfying enterprise for one student may be an academic nightmare for another. Fortunately for me, I am one of the former. Ashford University's on-line program allows me to fully integrate my studies with my busy work schedule. I find that Blackboard is easy to navigate and is an excellent venue compared to a real bricks-and-mortar classroom. For one thing, everybody gets to participate. No wall flower is going to hide in the shadows of a musty classroom while overachievers hog the two-hour period with their soliloquies. Speaking of which, the class sessions are not hampered by the time constraints that apply to a real class session. Mind you, the on-line classes operate on real time, with real schedules and real deadlines.
The instructors are very knowledgeable in the subject matter they are teaching. They're not Einsteins, but to that effect I challenge anyone to present a faculty staff composed entirely of geniuses outside of the Ivy League schools or M.I.T. (and perhaps, they, too, have one or two dullards posing as teachers). As far as classmates go, I have interacted with some of the most erudite, perceptive, and mature people in class. That is not to say that we do not have classmates who need some prompting, but I believe that is why they enrolled to begin with - to learn. To focus on the fact that you have les-than smart people in your class is petty and self-serving. This is college - you leave that minutiae back in high school.
When I enrolled I was swamped with phone calls and e-mails from the university staff, who all want to make sure that I am settling in nicely. Compared to my prior experiences with other colleges and universities (where red tape, apathy, and bureaucracy rule), I always have professional, worry-free transactions, whether it's paying my tuition fee or getting in touch with my instructors.
And Ashford University IS nationally accredited. For those who have stated otherwise, I advise that you look it up again.
Finally, I'd like to retort on the apprehension that a diploma is not going to get you a job: neither diploma, degree, nor fraternity pin will get you a job - YOU will get you that job.

My Ashford experience has been excellent. I attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City years ago and has the very same issues with the financial aid department. I made inquiries and checked reviews on several other colleges and university, and nearly everyone of them had similar financial aid issues. The accelerated program has worked very well for me, and I have to say, you must be ready to write and write a great deal. This is not an easy program, but you will be rewarded based upon what you put into the program. Writing, attribution, submittals, posting and following the many rules will provide a student with success. If you are not ready to follow the prescriptive way in which Ashford demands, then you will fail. On the other hand, if you are will to follow the prescriptive directions, do the work, interact through the blackboard forum and DO THE WORK, you will get a degree from an ACCREDITED university. I took extra measures to make sure I made the right choice. Ashford University was the right choice for my undergraduate degree and it is the right choice for my graduate program.

I am a second year student at Ashford, and although I am on the Dean's list, I would not encourage anyone to attend. They have no scholarship programs, so even though I am at abut a 3.8 GPA< it does not benefit me much. When I enrolled the person who enrolled me lied to told me I could get a 4 year degree in 2 years. I was told that this was because Ashford has accelerated learning. After being enrolled, I found out I had been lied to. I have dropped out of 3 classed, one on the advice of my aunt who is a professor and told me the instructor i was unhappy with should not be teaching. I can only say I have had 3 outstanding professors. Some have actually harassed me, which I reported to the University. One of my favorite professors was dropped and told she did not listen to her students, but she was loved by every student in my class. I think that talented instructors are just not want this school wants. And the class I am in now, is using the worst text I have ever read...all of the students are frustrated with it. Instructors do not chose the texts, but the selection of texts is poor. If you plan to attend this school,. be prepared to fight for a good grade, because sometimes the intelligent student may know more than the instrutor. I have had instructors tell me I knew things about the subject they were teaching they did not...go figure. Who is teaching who?
Please Be careful do not enroll here it is a nightmare!

I had a lot of trouble with this University it was a nightmare with trying to turn in paperwork they would recieve a document then turn around and say it was lost, this was a regular occurence once I finally started classes they told me half way through that they needed to cancelled my classes because they had no paperwork (even thou I had copies and fax confirmations saying they did) at that point I decided not to continue with them. A few weeks later they informed me that i owed $738 for a class I never finished so I offered to pay &550 to make up for what I did not complete and they refused and were exteremly rude and yelled when I was very calm. Take my advice I enrolled in Phoniex University and they are wonderful and so are they instructors. I would not suggest anyone attend Ashford.
Mostly good, with the usual negatives.

Overall I am pleased with Ashford. The classes are well designed and the five week schedule is great. As to some of the complaints about deadlines, that is the case in all academic and professional environments. Anywhere you go to school, or work you are going to have to meet deadlines, deal with it. The instructors seem knowledgeable and the teaching assistants are very helpful. Your assignments are graded fairly (even if they don't agree on your position) and I have always been given advice and well deserved criticism. If there is something wrong with your assignments, they will tell you what you need to do improve for your next assignment. To me, that sounds pretty fair.
To the points made about not finding a job, I hope that is not true. From the research I have done here in Indiana, all companies I have contacted will accept a degree from Ashford, as well as any regionally accredited institutions.
Also I had no problem what so ever with my enrollment advisor, Jesse. He was very helpful and not at all pushy. He answered all of my questions and told me everything I needed to know up front, even the technology fee (which by the way is a one time fee). Now this talk about having to buy books, what legitimate school do you think you are going to attend without having to buy books. The books are your responsibility, but that would be the case even in a traditional on campus environment, it is all part of your education. Now the negative. Don't waste your time trying to reach your financial advisor. I am on my second one now, and I have yet to receive a return email or phone call. I have sent email after email and left voicemail after voicemail, and have never, not even once, received a response. On the upside, I have never had trouble reaching the financial aid office itself (aside from a few minute hold waiting for a representative). They have been able to provide all the assistance I need and answer all the questions I have had. So I would recommend starting there, don't waste your time with your financial advisor. Now to the Academic Advisor that I have seen a lot of complaints about. I have had mixed experiences with mine. Sometimes I can call and she will answer right away and help me. Other times I leave a message and she gets back to me in a day or two. Then there are other times I have to leave multiple messages for days before I get a response, so it is kind of a guessing game on whether or not you will get an answer at any given time.
All in all, I am pleased with Ashford. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to further their education and attain a degree. There are some negatives, but where are you going to go that there aren't issues. The bottom line is the education and degree you are seeking, and this school is the right place to do that. I hope you make the right decision.
Not a school you want to go to.

Before signing over your life to this college look else where. For starters they give you the run around when you have questions, if questions are answered nobody ever has the same answers. Some of the teachers that they have at this school seem less knowledgeable about the subject they are teaching then you are. And do not think you are going to get any help from them either, they say they will respond if you need them within a certain time, but it never happends. Half the time the only way you know your doing good or not is when you see your grade. Even though the admissons state to you that its small classes and the teachers will interact more with you then other schools its a bunch of lies, most of the time you never even hear from the teachers. All that may be reading this might think I am only writing this because I failed or what have you, but to assure all of you, I was top in my classes, despite all the negative words I am saying about this school. I was promised something in the beinging when I signed up and to my surprise nothing was true. The only good experince that I had was the help that Bonnie, my addmissions advisor had given me through out the time I was a student. So again before you sign up look for other options.
Enroll...The Rest is up to you.

I've been a student at Ashford University for, officially, one year now. Initially, I was quite trepidatious about going back to college. Moreover, I was all the more ambivalent about an online university. So, with great care I researched Ashford. At one point I became afraid (due to some of the overly critical reviews on this very site).
In my opinion all of the explicitly hostile reviews are unwarranted. Deciding to attend Ashford was one of the best decisions I've ever made for my life and career. In addition to the subject matter in which I'm studying I've also learned a great deal of self discipline, motivation, and research/study skills (part and parcel to my major of course).
First of all one person (Nicole I believe)stated that Ashford did not require transcripts from other universities. That is a blatant lie. I attended two universities, prior to Ashford, and that was the first thing the enrollment advisor said that I would need. It took them a little while to transfer my credits in; however, they were required (as well as a highschool diploma).
Others have stated that the school is overprice and that they had to pay for their books. Well, that was not my experience. I only wish that I had done this sooner than later. Ashford has been the most cost efficient university I've ever attended. Moreover, every student has to pay for books (that is why you get residual money from your financial aid disbursements. Stop using it to go shopping and buy your books). If you want a tip buy books from online merchants at Amazon.com. I've saved hundreds of dollars on college literature just by putting in the effort to search.
Furthermore, Ashford--like all schools--is about having discipline and work ethic. You get in what you put out. Since attending Ashford University I've made the Dean's list three times and I'm going to recieve my BA in November.
If you don't do your work and don't make the effort to get in contact with your professors then it is up to you to contact your counselor and enrollment advisor and they'll nip it in the bud. However, unlike some of you, all of my professors have been nothing but professional and courteous. I've not had any of the nightmare horror stories. Sure, Blackboard did go down sometimes but that is every school that utilizes online learning. It happens. They understand that it does.
My initial ambivalence about online learning was unwarranted. As I said before I'm glad that I attended the school. As an adult learning this was the best, and only, option for me.
I highly recommend this for the student who is willing to put in the term and effort to treat themselves to a wonderful education. If you are making bad grades some of the onus goes on YOU.

The first thing I noticed about this school that made me skeptical was the fact that they didn't ask for transcripts from my previous schools. Any other school you apply to will not only ask for them, but require you to send them these documents before you can go any further into the application process. The second thing I noticed was how pushy the advisor was with trying to get me to apply for financial aid. I have the ability to pay for school out of pocket and I made that very clear, but every time I talked with her she insisted that I use financial aid. One reason for this might be the fact that there are several charges that they do not inform you of. If you use financial aid, that money sits in an account at the school where any charges can be deducted. $1000 to use blackboard? Are you kidding me? Every other school I have been to has blackboard and I have never been charged a cent, unless it comes out of tuition. I had to call and talk to several different people just to find out what these charges were. All of a sudden my account said I owed $1000. This is absolutely crazy to me. The advisors also were very persistent in asking me to tell other people about their school and try to get them to come. My advice is to stay far away from this school. I still have questions about this charge and everytime I call the person I am suppose to talk to is not in. So what do they do? They block me from my blackboard account. Meaning I am falling behind in my class. But it doesn't matter. Im done!!! I have already started looking at other schools and have applied at one. Western Governor's University. It seems pretty legitimate to me. They have already asked me to send in transcripts, the one basic thing Ashford didn't do. I recommend WGU. I without a doubt do not recommend Ashford. Please, stay away!!!!
Get out before you even start.

I have had a very bad exspierence with Ashford. I believe this school is a scam. Pushy advisors thats for sure. I should of ran the first day I signed up. I was told that my fee would be waived and they ended up charging my debit card. I told my advisor that I had $2.00 in my account and could not afford any charges at the time. She assured me that everything would be okay and I would not be charged. 2 days later I got a letter in the mail from my bank stating that I was overdrafted. I contacted my student advisor and she told it was a mistake and that there was another student that attended classes with my same name. The school did returned the money to my account but did not cover the fees my bank charged me. My advisor knew from the start that I am a single mother and had no job and was doing what I could to survive.
I did continue classes and really regret it now. I want out and not sure what steps to take. I failed my last class and contacted my advisor through email because I could not reach her on the phone. She finally reschedules my class but that has done me no good. I can not post my work in the discussion group every group says access denied. I am now a week behind and I can not reach anyone. I have sent several emails and made several calls. I stayed on the phone for over a hour waiting for tech support and no one ever came to the phone.
Far as I am concern the school is out for money and once they get it they set you up for failure. I still have not recieved a check and I been in the classes now over 90 days. Books are exspensive and you have to pay for them out of pocket. With me having no income I had to beg borrow and plead my family and promised them when I got the money that was owed back to me I would pay them back. Thanks Ashford for kicking me!

I have been reading all of the responses and would like to reply with first of all the AACSB is optional and not a requirement for all colleges - please review that website further. There is one college in the State of Alabama that is a 4 star college (Troy) and it is not a member on that list and yet all go to that college coming out winners here (Troy is all of the US/World). Second stop complaining about fees, there is also another college in this area that charges $559 per credit hour in fees, so get used to the fee thing, it's now a part of our college culture and you will pay the fees for as long as you intend on being educated. I just signed on with Ashford and have no complaints, I have read all the fine print (as one should) before signing so I know what I'm in store for; I have no complaints to date. If you want to read horror stories, try Univ of Phx. My co-worker is going there and she said they work in on-line groups, if one does not do their part, you have to pick up their piece in order to get a decent grade and the guy who didn't do anything gets a good grade for doing nothing at all. Fair deal - ya think? Life is full of unfairness and problems but only those who are smart enough to know how to handle them will be a successful future leader.

Ashford University has been a wonderful experience for me. All in all the folks are very helpful in all respects. Classes are engerizing and cohort of students are great. I can hardly wait to go to Clinton Iowa to attend graduation and meet many of the people I've interacted with during my classes as well as instructors and actually seeing the campus. After earning my BA degree I intend to continue at Ashford for my master's. By the way, their corporate offices are in San Diego not Los Angeles!

I am in the middle of my fifth class at Ashford and am having a GREAT time! I was absolutely scared to death to go to school on-line as I am "very old school" however, the advisors and teaching staff have been very helpful and professional. I really like the ability to fit my continuing education into my very busy schedule. Ashford is definately working for me!

I have been attending Ashford University since July of 2007. I had attended 2 and a half years at other colleges before looking to something online so I could work full time. I did my research on this school and it seemed to meet all of my needs. My enrollment adviser was very professional and answered every question I had. No one was ever pushy toward me and wanted me to feel as though I was making a good decision. I absolutely love AU. I will graduate in December 09 with my BA in Psych. You must be disciplined to attend online classes. All of my instructors have been very helpful when I needed extra help with an assignment. They would respond to my emails in a very timely manner, and if by chance I was going to have a late assignment, they would usually understand and tell me to turn it in as soon as possible. They do not put up with not logging in to your classes. You do get counted absent if not logging in within so many times a week. I have been to 2 different on ground schools and I learn more at Ashford than I ever did at the other colleges. My husband is in the military and once he went active duty they paid for my books. I realized that they would have done this all along had they had my military id. But that is partially my fault. I like how Ashford makes sure you have so many college hours under your belt before they accept you in their accelerated online programs. They want to make sure you have the maturity and determination to complete you classes without someone constantly guiding you along the way. I do not feel that Ashford is all about making money. They certainly haven't acted that way toward me at all. If you are not up to par in your postings, your instructor will ask you to please meet the requirements. Also, in each of the 5 learning blocks your instructor posts weekly guidance that elaborates more on the topics taught that week. The instructors also really know their stuff and are more than qualified when it comes to making sure you learn and understand. I look forward to graduating with my Psych. degree in just a few short months. I would definitely recommend Ashford to anyone looking for a challenge. Many students that I have my classes with are very bright individuals and we learn a lot from one another. Good luck!

I too had a pushy advisor. I was at a point in my life where I was just feeling out my options, then the next thing I knew classes had started. I didn't even have my books yet. I told the advisor I was a a bad time in my life, I just lost my fiance to a drunk driver, and was working 50hrs a week trying to support my two son, needless to say, I failed the class and was supposed to have federal funding, now Ashford is after me to pay for my class. I should have backed out the minute the advisor got pushy with me....

I imagine it is safe to assume that every school is going to have its downfalls as well as its positive aspects. It seems that most schools that are highly acclaimed as having a vast online curriculum seem to have a very pushy emphasis on getting someone enrolled. I thought this of Ashford at first, but once I started talking to other schools, I found out that they were much worse. I do understand that most universities still have to uphold a standard that generates attendance through advertisement. Take sports for instance-right? Initially, I felt Like a savvy car salesman lured me in and I was sort of sucked in with that same kind of tactic. I think what is funny is how some of the other universities, trying to enroll me, asked me drilling questions on what Ashford representatives were telling me that inspired me to choose them. Of course, I am not one for colleges competing with one another in cut-throat attempts; because I feel the importance is about building up smarts.
In addition, with that being said, I do not regret being enrolled in Ashford. I am currently taking online courses through Ashford, and I feel the classes are going quite well. I can not vouch for other online curriculum, but the online criminal justice degree is amazing. Most of the individuals enrolled are already involved in some kind of law enforcement field. They offer their own personal life experiences through discussion; therefore, indicating real life people with real life adventure. The professors also have a substantial resume on hand. Not only did they just merely go out and obtain a degree, but they built it upon their personal experiences. For example, what is more credible? A guy who went out and obtained a masters/doctorate degree in criminal justice and began teaching; or a guy that went out and served as a SWAT team member, local police officer, correctional officer, border patrol, military police, gang task force, drug task force, probation and parole, social work....etc.., then went out and started teaching? This kind of pulls the blue collar aspect into approach. Who is more credible? The guy who has seen that/been there putting their rear-end on the front line; or the individual/professor that only thinks from what he/she sees from his/her window?
Ashford definitely holds this patriotic vision. The person who will achieve the most in the criminal justice field will inevitably succeed having street smarts. The professors at Ashford uphold this high standard by intellectually incorporating this into the subject matter. The only challenge I have for myself is being enrolled as a 3/4 time student. I want to obtain my degree at a faster pace, but do not the unknown, considering I have a full time job. The only downfall that upsets me is the ever-so changing of advisers. Whether it is enrollment, financial, academic, it seems that my advisers are constantly changing throughout the course of the curriculum. I sometimes feel that this is a bond or friendship that has ended. I remember quite well an enrollment adviser actually pulling the weight of other personnel, in answering my questions and concerns when they were absent from the office. Some of the advisers are very proficient to even answering questions of their realm. I was very fortunate to have such an adviser and now he is exempt from my reach. I have failed to ask where he disappeared to. I also enjoy the set up of the student portal system. The degree progress graphs serve as a constant reminder/motivator on how your degree progress is going. I like that feature very much. This feature also enables you to reach your advisers quickly. I also found out how quickly the professors respond to e-mail in time of difficulty. The technicians that help regulate the Blackboard online system answer questions in a timely matter as well. To tell anyone the truth, I'm bought on that feature. I also feel that the professors view students in a compassionate matter, versus some who perhaps view students as a means to compensate their paychecks. One time I made an error in my posting and a professor went out of his way to get me back on track. I never even saw this kind of ethical/moral concern in my previous junior college experience, despite the fact of its small class numbers. I highly recommend this university.

I attended campus classes at Ashford and had a true "mixed-bag" experience. My professors were all very nice people who were knowledgeable about their fields in both academic and professional ways. I had terrible experiences with the financial aid department as well as other areas of the administration....they seemed very unorganized and were rude with me. I feel that I was not given the information that I needed in order to function on campus (ie. parking rules, student i.d. cards, being accused of checking out a book and not returning it when in fact I didn't even have a library card the entire time I was there, etc...)successfully. I feel that the administration is disorganized and unprofessional. I also feel that the course work is not as challenging as it is at other universities. I have $17,000 in student loan debt (have not been able to get a job with my degree yet)and do not feel that it was worth it. I wish that Ashford had offered more by way of career counseling and placement programs, but they didn't. Overall, knowing what I know now, I don't think that I would do it all over again. I think I would have gone to a different school. Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend this school.

If you want a real education that is reputable and accredited, do not go to Ashford University. I live in San Diego and no employers here, America's finest city, recognize Ashford University as a legit school.
I asked an advisor at Ashford what companies in the San Diego area were hiring their graduates and she could not tell me. I was in the MBA program and I felt like I was in third grade. Most my classmates couldn't even write at a third grade level. It was a joke and almost embarrassing to be apart of that educational culture.
The most reputable business agency does not recognize a business degree from a school that does not have any admissions standards. An MBA from Ashford would be embarrassing in the professional market. How can you get into a MBA program without taking the GMAT? That is like going to med school without the MCAT or going to law school without taking the LSAT.
Don't go to Ashford. Do yourself a favor and go to a real school that will make you look prestigous and respectable. People that go to real schools look at Ashford and laugh.
