Ashford is accreditated by the same company as any other big university. Its online courses through an actually on campus school. The fact that they offer financial aid is one clue that they are an actual school. I highly doubt you worked there and all of your complaints make 0 sense.
And to the others, I will try to make is so you can understand what Im saying, a for profit school means they are more like a private school. If you go to OCU in Oklahoma City, you are going to a for profit school. The education is the same. To the person who said these are not college level classes. You need to research the same degree programs at any other college. They are the same.
So again, this college has the same accrediation as any other on campus university in the USA and the reason they are for profit is because they are more of a private school, so they are going to cost a little more. The education is the same.

People who know how are the classes in Ashford will never accept a degree from that university.
The teacher teaches nothing. The site have assigned a weekly task that seems not have changes for years.
Teacher interventions are something like
"I see some learning going on here .. Give me a YEE HAW!"
'Tell me about how this discussion has aided you in understanding the materials more?"
"Good work ... never let down!"
"Do these discussion find there way into your business and how so?"
Discussion courses is among the students because the teacher just makes stupid questions.
Each of the examples is not a summary of what he wrote!! That's all he writes!!
And students also answered
Professor: "I just wanted to say THANKS for the activity and to let you know that learning is the best way to overcome ALL! Never stop Learning!"
Student: "Yes Sir."
This is not lie. I have evidence.
The very good is the enrollment system, the says a lot of lies and then not deliver. In my case I was told that they will transfer more clases than any other university, and end they do not transfer any.
Ashford is an expensive joke.

I have had a wonderful experience at Ashford. I am one class away from graduating. The class assigned to me is Math. This is my last course, I will not graduate if I fail this course. My question is, why, was a course that most people find difficult assigned at the very end. I feel that a difficult course should be assigned in the beginning of classes. This way, you know if you can move forward or not. After spending upwards of 10,000.00 for tuition, if I fail I am without a degree and bound by needless debt. Has anyone else had this experience?

All I know is that Ashford University out of Clinton, IA has been a great experience that allowed me to obtain a BA degree while working full time. Conventional classes might be good for some but for me, online was the only way to go. Next, it is off to MBA land through Cal State, Monterrey Bay....... Online
Thanks for doing a good job Ashford!!

This is a great school and I see the complaints and it is mostly because the student A. didn't listen or B. didn't understand the process.
Any school is going to cost money. Ashford has all of their fees and tuition posted on their website and it is easy to locate unlike many other schools. And financial aid is not decided by the school. It is decided by the department of education. The school can't control when the funds will arrive and most of the time there isn't anything left over.
The classes are good and challenging. You are in school, so do the work. It's not a free or easy degree. Also when students complain about transferring of credits, do your research, who transfers as many credits as ashford does? Not one school that has online modality. And there is a difference between transferring and being applicable. You have certain courses you need for your degree, You need electives, general education, and major, if you transfer over credits and for instance (just an example) you have 99 credits, you need 46 gen eds, 50 electives, 30 major. So maybe 10 credits you took were general education, and 88 of them were electives, well than you will just flat out lose credits. this happens anywhere you go. It is not specific to Ashford. If you have a problem with it go spend 30 hours a week doing school at the university you were originally at.
Do your research, look at school websites. Do your homework.

Absolutely take into consideration the author of these reviews as you are reading them. First and foremost most of the authors of the negative reviews have poor grammar and spelling. Others are ONLY concerned about MONEY and receiving Aid in the form of a check.
For one, funds are supposed to be used for tuition, not for bills. Secondly people please understand that aid includes grants and loans. Not everyone qualifies for grants, they are income based.
Second there is no such thing as a free education. Please do not write a review if you are not educated on the topic. There is no way to manipulate FAFSA for the school to be able to offer it. A school has to be accredited to offer financial aid. FAFSA is a government program, not something made up by the university.
For those of you who felt rushed and misled, did you do your research and ask your questions? Probably not. That is probably why you also did not find success in the classroom. You are not doing your research.

Great school but the only thing I was disappointed with was the financial aid department. Documents constantly get lost and it takes a while before financial aid goes through.

I think that Ashford University is a great school. Either the programs are taken online or on campus. Unfortunately, some people had problems with the financial aid and enrollement advisors. However, I was fortunate to not have either dilemma. The thing that I don't understand is how people on this post claim that Ashford University people are not marketable.
A) Ashford University is an accredited school through the NCA. Employers look for accreditation for jobs, and finanically support their employees.
B) Life is what you make out of it no school promises a job so KSA's have alot to do with employment.
C) For some on the post that do not know accreditation has alot to do with federal laws regarding educational requirements through the Department of Education.
D) All schools technically are for profit students take out loans to go to any school, so please show me a school thats free so I can attend!!
E)Some of the riches people in the world do not have a Masters Degree so cause you graduate Yale does not garuantee your a millioniare. Life is what you make of it and how you express yourself.
F) No GMAT for a business degree lol. I wonder how Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Martha Stewart, Master P, Sean P Diddy Combs, Donald Trump did on their GMAT? and if any of them have a Master Degree?
G) Life is what you make it school is school period as long as its regionally accredited through the six different bodies. So I can agree with financial aid problems or enrollment even though I never had that problem. All the people who disrespect the school educational wise obviously know nothing about life.

I graduated from Ashford University with a BA in Psych, with an online course of study, December of last year. It was a very good experience. I actually made friends which I still stay in contact with even now. The experience taught me time management and gave me confidence as well as giving me a broad scope of understanding. The most difficult class was Environmental Ethics. However, it was very thorough and offered a lot of theory which one could apply to any real-world scenario. I would recommend Ashford to anyone. By the way, the degree I earned there has provided admittance for my degree program in counseling.

I totally agree with the negative reviews about this "school". I couldn't even number the amount of times I was ashamed to work for Ashford as an enrollment advisor. I will keep it simple: The classes are not college level or respected, it is all numbers based, and they DO NOT truly care about students or employees. As others have said, many of the people running the show also have online degrees, while many managers have no degree at all. I was yelled at several times for trying to be honest as well as go above and beyond for students. That is when I started to really question their ethics. It is so sad how many people are mis-lead into enrollment at that school. I mean people should do research on their own, but at the same time when an "advisor" at a "university" tells you something, you tend to believe it. They have HUGE turnover bc they fire anyone who does not meet their enrollment numbers. The horrible part is that it changes once you are hired. That is a whole other issue, but in any case it is not worth your money or time. Also, they preach that a degree is a degree and as long as it is accredited it's all the same. NOT TRUE- they are accredited, but barely. There are different accrediting agencies, and if you look at state schools etc, they are often a higher accreditation. Hard to explain, but the bottom line is that it does matter where you go to school! By the way I was not fired, I quit because I could not handle the emotional guilt of being forced to lie to people every day. Not to mention the cut throat and unprofessional environment. They love scare tactics and harassment there, and I am truly surprised that more employees don't question it. Maybe they do, but they are afraid to say anything since they are harassed every day.
Great Experience!

Prior to graduating from Ashford with a BA in Organizational Management in 2009, I attend the University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University but could not finish due to job transfers.
I researched many different online schools and decided on Ashford. I see that people have complained about this and that but you will find the same issues even in the larger universities.
I found it much easier to communicate with my advisors at Ashford than the other two schools I attended. I was able to call or email them and received a prompt response most of the time.
At one of my previous schools I was told by my advisor to just take whatever I wanted to take and we'll work out the details later.
I knew exactly what classes I needed, when the classes commenced and what materials were needed weeks and even months ahead of time.
I work full time and have a wife and kids and found this atmosphere to be very enjoyable and educational. I highly recommend Ashford to anyone considering an online education.

I recently enrolled into Ashford, November 17, 2009. I have never been so excited about anything especially something I have wanted to do for so long, but didn't have the funds to do so. I explained my finances and was told how I would get a disbursement refund that I could use as I saw fit, I thought this would be great; I could get my computer repaired and be able to work towards my Bachelors Degree. Well after 4 weeks I was concerned because I had never received my "Awards Letter", so I began calling the Admissions person who gave me to the "Financial person" he was very rude and basically said I needed to be patient. Well after not receiving my letter I was told the IRS had printed out the wrong paper that was needed (GO figure). My question is if this is your department would you not know what the paperwork should look like why was I not notified? Well then once the correct paperwork was sent over still nothing. Then I am told the paperwork wasn’t even processed I finally received my Award Letter on 1-22-10. Now this is the kicker, as I would go into my "Account Information" I constantly was seeing charges added on, I called my new Financial Advisor and he tells me this $990.00 was explained to me during my enrollment session. I didn't have the time to argue, but it was not. Needless to say I still have not received any type of disbursement as of 2-16-10. When I applied to Ashford I registered with already having my Associate's Degree in Business Administration, it was actually 2.5 months into my course with almost completing my second class that I learned they hadn't received my transcripts. I could not believe this. I was contacted and told they could not locate the school; I found this to be strange so I went to the Internet and low and behold got the phone number that Marcie needed and called her back with the information. I have made calls back to see if the transcripts have been received and they have, so now I am wondering what is going on. I don't want to be one of these students with the negative balances and unable to continue on. I feel more accurate communication should take place. If you aren't sure then it should be said as so. Some of us count on this disbursement for helping out with books, computers and so on and so forth. I thought I did a good deed by recommending my Daughter and Daughter-n-law, but I have faxed over my Daughter-n-law Income Tax papers three different times and each time there is an excuse given to her, either the papers weren't received or something else is needed. Is this the normal process of Ashford? No I am not a hater, but a concerned student. I went on the Internet and forwarded a complaint to my Admission’s person from student that had gone through what I am presently experiencing. As my Admission’s person read this he told me not to worry this wouldn’t happen to me. (WRONG) I need someone to just give me some answers and soon this is crazy.

Ashford University BA Psychology program is misleading. I originally graduate from the City College and earned my A.A.S in Mental Health (Psychology). All my college psychology courses and other related courses were 200 levels. Ashford enrollment advisor went out his way, to support me with getting majority of my courses transferred over. The matriculation coordinator told enrollment advisor once they receive the original transcripts they would re-consider transferring the other courses over I had in question. Before Ashford ever received my final transcripts, they accepted the unsealed transcript mean while. In addition, the very same transcripts I provided to Ashford, was the very same documents the city college provided them with. Only different was they were sealed by the city college, oppose to what I fax over earlier weren’t sealed. First, they transferred 79 credits and turned around an accepted only 58 after completing 21 credits. Ashford doesn’t care anything about their students. They are more concern with collecting more money and keeping you in these on line courses, whereas, they can collect more money through the loan agencies. The more loans Ashford can get a student approved for the more they receive. Ashford instructors are confrontational with students through emails in regards to lectures and there is absolutely no way to contact these instructors personally when students have concerns. For the most part, they don’t respond to students emails within a timely manner. You don’t earn enough discussion points from the very start. These losers TA and Instructions find fault within the submission of your assignment to keep from giving a student all his or her rightful points for each assignment. Also, instructors depend solely upon teaching assistant for just about everything. This was told to me personal by one of Ashford financial Aid advisor’s who was currently enrolled as a student herself. My own personal experience with Ashford teaching assistant tells me a conclusion belongs in a rough draft of a paper. Now, any essay paper, conclusions go towards the end of a final paper, right before the reference page. I email the instructor in regards this matter, she refer me right back to him. She didn’t want to be bothered in other words. I met dozens of Ashford student through my classes, they stated from Academic Advisor’s, Enrollment Advisor’s and Financial Aid was right out rude and extremely unprofessional during live telephone conservations. If we don’t ask question, you get no answers. This makes their job a lot easier. Ashford is in business to get as much money they can possibly get. They don’t care rather if you exceed within their programs or what have you. This is a recent experience I just gone through with Ashford. While changing my school code through FAFSA website, I received a print out on Ashford’s GRADUATION rate 30% and RETENTION rate was 40%. These rates mean they are the worst within their district and online courses. I have encounters with many people who never even heard of Ashford before. We as student need to do more research on this misleading, scam, and rip off universities before enrolling into them. I would not recommend any students to this none prestigious university if my life depended on it!!!!

I am a stay at home mother of three. Yes my husband works, so we do have an income. However, I cannot afford gas nor a sitter for three while I drive back and forth to attend classes in a building. Earning my degree online is my only choice at the moment. Ashford is an amazing school. People are there to help you when you call, and you don't get put on a waiting list for your problem, question, or comment to be answered. They treat you like you are the only one they are worried about.
The classes are only one at a time, and each class is 5wks long. Sounds easy right? No and Yes. The time period is easy, the fact of doing your work on your own time is easy, but the assignments are real and you do have to put time, thought, and effort into them. This is not something to take lightely.
If you attend Ashford, I say you will enjoy it, you will find it comforting, and you will also learn from it. So if you are asking yourself "is Ashford the school for me", then I can answer for you... yes it is! I love this school and I am so happy that I took that first step.
Call Daniel Singer (he's my enrollment advisor) and get started. He makes the starting process so easy and relaxing.

My husband is currently in the military, with this being said, we will have a lot of moving in our future. It was great for me to enroll here because whether I am in the US or overseas I can still attend school. I recieve a military discount which is free books and courses at $750. Also, they waive your application fee and technology fee (and possibly more fees, not 100% sure). It's great because it equals to 6000 per year not counting using grants or the MYCAA program.
All my advisors have been great!! They instantly respond back and call just to check on me. I'm getting ready to start my second course which is ENG 121. I am very excited to see what's in store, and so far I couldn't have asked for anything better. My professor comments on our posts and gives us any help when needed.
Everyone has a different opinion about going to Ashford, but my expierence here has been wonderful so far and I can not wait to see what else is in store! I would recommend going to Ashford for anyone but especially for military (or people that move around often).

The company, which went public in April, did not provide an update on a federal regulatory audit by the Department of Education's Office of Inspector General. In September, Bridgepoint withdrew its registration for a secondary public offering amid the audit, which it said could result in corrective action or fines. The investigation involves Bridgepoint's compensation of enrollment advisers, use of federal aid and documentation of student attendance.

Ashford University is an amazing school! I mean who cares where the school came from, who started it, or if its a business/company? The school is accredited, the teachers are very helpful, the education is good, you earn your degree, and the most important thing to remember is you get what you give. If youdon't put forth very much effort you won't learn much and your grades will reflect your effort. Everyone who attends Ashford does not get an A just for doing the assignments. The assignments have to be well thought out and written showing that you understand what your learning. I love Ashford University. It allows you to create your own schedule and advance your life. I would recommend this school to anyone.

The quality of your experience is directly tied to your outlook and effort. I have been around the block, so to speak, with my college career. I started out in a traditional setting. When that didn’t work, I moved to a weekend off-campus program. This format didn’t prove fruitful to my unique needs either. I found Ashford University in a last-ditch attempt to complete an undergraduate degree.
The experience has changed my life. Not because the school did anything spectacular or out of the ordinary. Ashford just recognized the simple fact that people have responsibilities outside of academia. They set up an asynchronous format which allowed me to do the work when I could get to it. This school allowed me to plan around a chaotic and fluctuating schedule to meet the demands of family and job.
Ashford University treated me like an adult. I was responsible for my work and beholden to deadlines. If I needed clarification on something the professors were only an email away. I don’t necessarily “credit” Ashford University with my success; I thank them for allowing me to find it within myself.
I graduated last October (2009) and have already used my degree to land a job in human services. I am currently applying to graduate schools and am working toward building a rewarding career. Isn’t that what it is all about? I recommend Ashford if you are responsible and self motivated. If you can cultivate the art of answering the question asked you’ll do fine. Cultivate discipline when life gets in the way and you will not only succeed academically, you will learn to apply this discipline toward a career. http://www.ashford.edu/campus/profiles/profile.php?type=online&id=48Ashford is AWESOME!

I read all of the reviews so far and I felt compelled to say my piece. I am entering my second (and last) semester with Ashford University and my experience has been awesome!
I transferred from a big ten university and they took the maximum amount of 99 credits. They offer full credits with their courses (not quarter credits) like other online schools. They started by taking only 96 and I filed a tranfer appeal, and was able to get another course transferred--note that I had to do the work to get the appeal processed. Not a problem.
The handling of my financial aid was very proficient. I was surprised by the technology fee, like others, but my course experiences put that complaint in the shadows. All of my instructors have been very attentive to my course work and have answered my emails promptly. One instructor even offered a phone number which I used and spoke directly to on a number of occasions.
Yes, online courses are a little more expensive, but have been totally worth it for me. Be responsible when looking for a school. Know what you want and ask bunches of questions. I did and have been more than excited about what I have accomplished so far. Best of luck to all future Ashford University students.

I just completed my course work at Ashford on December 14, 2009. I now possess my BA in Social Science. Anyway, I'll be brief.
Ashford was the best decision that I've made for myself in a long time. A few years ago I was quite ambivalent about going back to school; however, my enrollment advisor gave me all of the ins and outs about what to expect (which is why I'm shocked by the enrollment advisor's account of what happened at Ashford). There was nothing that just popped up for me. I read the fine print myself. No one had to tell me anything. (We are adults)...
What I got was a lot of challenging work. The only thing that made me want to scream were the back to back courses (and the amount of papers that I had to write on nearly a daily basis). However, as other grads have stated, you get out what you put in. I graduated with a 3.80 GPA and I am so very proud of myself for all of the work.
I never felt short changed. While some of the courses (very few) were simple, the rest challenged me to do my very best. Furthermore, all of the years that I took courses in junior college did not go to waste. The majority of them transferred to my Ashford curriculum.
Work hard and dilligently and you WILL have a good time with Ashford. This is not for people who are expecting easy A's and someone to hold their hand through the experience. Online the responsibility is on you. The only things I cared about were...
1.) Was Ashford accredited? 2.) Was Ashford affordable? 3.) Would my credits transfer? Check, check, and check on ALL three.
My only critique of Ashford is that after you complete your course work they just throw you to the wolves. One day my enrollment advisor and guidance counselor could give me every single answer I needed...But the minute I graduate it's "I'm sorry I don't know anything about that but I'll forward you to someone that will..." With never a reply back. I'm still waiting for my degree and transcripts right now. I guess I have to call and harrass them about that.
Otherwise, my experience at Ashford has been pleasant.

Ashford University is an excellent school: their classes are informative and challenging. The reading and writing can be overwhelming if you do not pace yourself. Classes are only five weeks long. Online learning is not for everyone. It takes highly motivated individuals to succeed in an online format.
IF you need visual concepts to help you learn or consider yourself a procrastinator, online learning is probably not for you. Personally, I like both formats. Many of my coworkers say the online format is not for them because they need the personal attention and visual concepts provided in the traditional brick and mortar schools. The instructors, so far, have been very informative about the subject matter, and provide questions of intellectual challenge.
Higher learning is achieved through the diversity of communication exchange. In order for this exchange to become meaningful, the students must articulate their ideas and thoughts in a manner that spurs and fosters continued critical thinking as well. The professor does play a significant role in the students learning experience, but you should not depend on the professor’s view points as the sole tool to augment your learning experience. After all, the resource material you are reading and learning from was more than likely authored by someone other than your instructor.
If you are under the impression that obtaining a degree from this University or any other University alone will land you a job, you are mistaken. In my opinion, the degree alone will not land you the job. A degree from Ashford will get you the interview, but it’s up to you to sell yourself. An education from Ashford University will provide you with the educational tools needed to build foundational intellect within the career field you seek; however, it’s imperative that you continue to read and study additional material in your related field in order to be successful, and this applies to any school you attend.
I would categorize the students who attend the online format as nontraditional. You can obtain a lot of real world knowledge form the students that attend the school. In every class I’ve taken so far, about fifteen percent of the students were employed with government agencies and well known corporations around the country. In one of my classes, there were several technical administrators and managers within their field. Every student I talked to who had held a position of authority said, "the degree alone will not get you the job, but without the degree more than likely you will not have the opportunity to make a six figure salary."
I found email to be the best forum to communicate with the school staff. Each time I called, the staff member I was trying to reach was unavailable; however, my calls were always returned the same day, or the following day with a follow-up email sent to me. Email is best, as in my case, if you’re not often available to pick up the return phone call.
I’ve never had any problems with financial aid. I allowed the school to hold any funding overages to insure my obligations are paid. All expense was disclosed upfront before registration.
If you are looking for a good school to enhance your current career, Ashford University is a great choice to achieve that goal. If you are the student whose maturity age is between 18 & 21, I recommend you attend traditional school. The online format is for the more nontraditional student. I will add Ashford does have a brick and mortar campus if you’re interested.
