We are proud to present our selections for the best online colleges of 2010. After several weeks of gathering data, analyzing statistics, and consulting experts, we feel that our list represents the best of distance education. Because many distance learning programs are still in their infnacy, finding the necessary information on the prestige of online schools can be difficult and time consuming. By examining accreditation statuses, institution type, tuition costs, graduation and retention rates, and student reviews of the universities, we feel that we have developed an excellent and measurable way to evaluate online institutions in a fair and balanced manner.

The figure in the right hand column is the average ranking. This number was calculated by averaging the score each school earned in our various determining categories. To learn more about the data and how we arrived at the score you see in the right hand column, check out the methodology section included on our most recent rankings page. Each year we try to improve our data collection and ranking process, but the general criteria remain the same.
