BS Business Administration, Hospitality

By Anne - Wheeling, WV on July 1, 2008

Mountain State University was my first choice for a place to get my degree because of its location. Beckley is just 50 miles from Charleston. It's a smaller town surrounded by national parks. I love the outdoors and the recreational opportunities are amazing. Rock climbing, white water rafting, kayaking. Can't study all the time, right? Beckley is a friendly town full of arts, crafts and music. There is always something going on. I wasn't sure what I wanted to study, but the advisors at Mountain State were very helpful. They helped me figure out how to combine my love of the out doors with a career that I could do almost anywhere, and would be a good job as well. They have a state of the art career guidance planning tool called "siggy three". I used it to match my skills and interests to different careers and then search for jobs that fit. It put me on the right track to a great career. With about 8000 students, there is aways an opportunity to make new friends, and I met people from all over. The lay out of the campus makes it easy to get around, and the classes were small, I didn't feel lost when I started like I might have at a bigger University. The courses were challenging at times, but I had help from advisors and friends to study with, so that was OK, I always got answers to my questions because of the small class size. When I was getting financial aid, the aid department helped me with all the paperwork, and the tuition is reasonable so I didn't have to borrow a lot. When I was getting ready to graduate, they made sure all my paperwork was in order. I didn't have to worry about it at all.

Business Administration

By Dave Melbrook - Albuquerque, NM on July 1, 2008

Well I started attending Mountain State in the fall of '06.I was an undergrad and my major was Business Administration and I loved it. I learned so much more than any books I've every read or anything. The teachers there were great! Only problem was that a lot of the students like to party a little "too much", a party here and there is nice but these guys like to PARTY. But other than that I had a great experience. The teachers listen and try to help you as much as they can. The class sizes are great. They don't pile you with tons of homework because we have lots of in class seminar discussion time which I found very good and helped me to learn more. Also when we do have homework, we have we over it in great detail during class that the homework is not a burden. Actually I enjoyed the homework very much at times. The College activities were also great I love the annual cupcake sale the Volleyball team has every November in the main gym. People from all over come and it’s a good place to meet people listen to music and just enjoy yourself and have a good time. Mountain State University is a great school and I’m so glad that I went.
