Kaplan Student

I am at the end of my first year at Kaplan University to achieve my Associates Degree. The online learning experience has been far more effective than attending a campus-based degree program (of which Kaplan also has available). The courses are very organized which helps me a great deal. The professor's can be demanding of the students and don't just give away grades. The professor's challenge students to think and apply what they are learning. The cost for this school is higher than most universities however the textbooks are included and federal aid is available. I have learned more in this year and retained more than any school I have attended. The only drawback is that the accounting/student billing department is lacking and there are always posting errors on my student account, which sometimes can be in the thousands. The school will call and ask how I intend to pay. Because I am always on top of my account and every transaction, I am able to help them fix their errors. My overall experience is fantastic. I look forward to every new course. I am holding at a 3.43 CGPA which is the highest grade I have ever maintained. When I go back and review all of the homework, projects, ad other assignments I have completed, I can see why. This university demands an excellent work ethis and commitment. If you are not disiplined, you may find this school very difficult.

I thought it was great for me, when I say me, i mean it is not for everyone. I have childred so I had to set up my online seminars around them. I had to log in twice a week to be involved in a live class. We read all books on our own time, but had to respond to questions in the forum to receive credit for participation. What i liked most, was that I didn't have to travel and spend time in a physical classroom. As far as improving goes, I would have to say that the amount of people who just are socializing during the open discussions are enormous, they should have a way to control the people who are always interupting and chatting about their lives. I know that happens in classrooms too, but when paying for an online degree, you expect to go online and complete your work in a timely fashion. The professors were great, the way they create new ways to keep students interested in an online environment was very impressive. I am considering startin up again soon so I can finish my bachelors degree.
