pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice

By Erin - Indiana on August 5, 2008

The experience is pretty good so far. I had been attending the school campus and took a few online classes sprinkled in. Once getting an associate's degree, the bachelor's program is all online. I enjoy having the time to do my work and my lessons when I want instead of having a set time every week. I enjoy that the instructor is always available to email and often times will provide their private telephone number and be available on instant messenger for certain "office hours" each week. I would change the fact that we don't have a weekly "class". I miss interacting with others in the class but I would rather do the work in my own time.

Criminal Justice

I really enjoyed ITT tech because they had alot of hands on experiences, just as my experienes at Sanford Brown were. I decided that I wanted to get into a different program and graduated with an associate's degree in 2007. I am now currently enrolled in the online bachelor's degree program and find it to be a great experience. It has prepared me for my future because not only did it teach me essentials, but it prepared me for the real world with learning how to put together a professional portfolio.

The online learning experience differed from class to class. I would suggest that anyone desiring to go in this direction make sure they have general knowledge of computers before starting. There are academic and technical assistance to help if you do have a problem.

In some of my classes there was a lot of interaction between the professor and the students. In most classes you have class discussions that you must post in. You are usually also required to respond to other classmates. I even had a couple of classes where I had to work with other students through discussion posts to complete assignments. This made the classes feel like actual classroom classes. There were a couple of classes where there was no interaction at all.

Some of the classes are 11 weeks and others 6 weeks. I loved the short classes. It made it easier to stick to it knowing that I didn't ever have long left. Each week you get one week to do a lesson presentation online, readings (from actual textbooks), and turn in your assignments such as discussions, labs, or writing assignments.

Most of the teachers are some what lenient if you get behind. The six week classes will require more work each week. I would have any where from one assignment to eight assignments due each week. Textbooks and software (not hardware) are provided as part of the tuition. It was hard at times to not have some one right there to ask questions. But most of the teachers did get back with me fairly quick. I could always send messages to other students if I needed help too.

I learned very quickly not to wait until last minute to work on assignments. Some of the textbooks were amazing. My programming book was made for anybody from a person new to computers to an expert to use. There were also some workbooks that didn't make any sense to me. Luckily, towards the end of the class I was able to submit a student survey with any complaints.

The coursework was easy but scheduling was difficult. Oftentimes you had to push yourself to complete online work that had to get put to the side due to real life matters. The professor interactions were fine, but there was little to no interaction with fellow classmates. I'd say it was nevertheless excellent preparation for my current career.

ITT Tech Associate in Computer Networking

By Andrew - Canton, MI on May 20, 2008

The coursework for ITT was very good and informative. They covered everything in my career path and the instructors were very helpful and knowledgeable. I had both campus and online classes. The online classes worked out very well. I never had any problems with the site going down.

I did have a teacher that would take a long time to respond to my questions, but most were very good. I made several friends in school there. I find that a lot of the students were around my age and shared the same interests. Overall I feel I learned a lot at ITT but I did have a few problems.

Most importantly the credits DO NOT transfer to most schools. So you if you decide to attend a university you will be starting from scratch. Also their career placement was not very helpful. All the jobs they offered were for less money and most didn't even require a college degree. I was able to get a job based on my degree, but I had to do it my self, searching for jobs and applying for them.

My online course was great. I am disabled physically from attending any school, so studying from my home was a plus. Study books. Interactions with teachers and faculty was also a great help. I am more than prepared for a new career. Learning from online ITT has given me a new start, I highly recommend ITT Online courses.

The course consisted of online lessons complemented by classroom sessions with hands-on labs. The coursework consisted of regular end-of-chapter tests to assess our understanding of particular topics. Online tools included, simulators, mock-exams, documents, lessons, tutorials and games. The lecturer was a very experienced professional who communicated with the students very well and was very patient in explaining the topics. Overall the experience was very enjoyable and profitable, and I passed the examination first-time around.

IT (Information Technology)

By DL - online on March 5, 2008

They were very flexible with both my financial situation and my life goals. The paperwork process was extremely easy since the staff was ready and willing to answer any questions that I had. I graduated with a degree in IT (Information Technology) and I do not regret one single minute. I did have to make some sacrifices along the way, but it was a small price to pay for the money I am able to make now!

I had one professor in particular who opened up a whole new perspective of life for me. I was fortunate enough to have this individual multiple times throughout my two years attending ITT. I had a few prof's that just did not want to be teaching and made some classes absolutely unbearable! Overall, I enjoyed ITT and would recommend all who are looking to further their education try it out.
