BSN Certified

By Brian - Atlanta, GA

Indiana State employs a Blended Learning approach, combining independent study with online courses which allowed me to complete the courses on my own time. Already having a full time job make this approach perfect for me. The online classes were intuitive and challenging. Using their full compliment of online tools, I was able to speak with my fellow students and faculty in real time. My BSN certification allowed me to move up more quickly, and receive higher pay, faster than I ever imagined.

Great Learning Experience

I have been enrolled in this program for four years and now in the process of completing the dissertation. I can't express how pleased I am with the course content, teaching style (for most of the professors, not all) and philosophy of program delivery.

This is a great value and I am definitely the better for the experience, plus, I've been able to keep my job while finishing the degree. It is *not* easy, but I wouldn't want it to be. Of course I don't think it's as hard as an MIT or equivalent, but it is certainly a life changing experience and one that is very positive.

The worst part of the program is the early guidance and administrative support. You are expected to "figure out" a lot of the logistics, which is not possible in many cases. As a result you end up relying on current and former students who know the ropes a little better... in the end, this is actually a good thing, but very frustrating as you're going through it.

Bachelors of Science in Health Services

The coursework was rather easy, except my last semester of college. I had to do a lot of projects the last semester that made up almost all of my grade. It was easy because I could use my text book to take the test. I rarely studied or even read the text books.

We used blackboard. All of the assignments were posted, and some of them had a discussion board that had weekly topics that would need to be completed. I would have weekly quizes. I could interact with my classmates by email, but really didn't use that too much. I really missed out on the classmate interaction, and thought that most of my instructors did not get back to me in a reasonable time.

We used powerpoint and breeze videos. Some professors did online lectures with video, which I learned the most from. My overall experience was average. I wish I could have completed my school work traditionally, but since I had two small children, it would have been very hard. It did prepare me for my new career, only because I did an mandatory internship.
