Cost of Going to College
Predicting the cost of post-secondary education is not a fool-proof task. There are many different ways colleges and universities are supported, and all sources of funding can affect the price of tuition. Public colleges are supported by government money, while private institutions are not. This usually means that students pay less for tuition at public colleges and universities, and more at private colleges and universities. Tuition rates can also depend on whether a state claims a student as a resident. Attending a public college or university in a student's state of residence is usually less expensive than attending a public university out of state.
