<info>

There are many opportunities to specialize and work in fields such as biomedical engineering, computer science, and aerospace engineering.

Electrical engineers are in high demand.

Most electrical engineers have at least a bachelor's degree.

 What does an electrical engineer do?

Have you ever wondered how the engine of your car works, or how a television works? Ask an electrical engineer and they'll likely know the answer. Electrical engineering is the specialization within the field of engineering that works with electronics and electricity. Examples of some projects modern electrical engineers may work on include the design of telecommunication systems, the operation of electric power stations and the design of electronic household appliances.

What kind of degree is needed to work as an electrical engineer?

Most electrical engineers are graduates of bachelor's or master's programs. Electrical engineering is usually the main course of study on the way to a bachelor's degree. More advanced positions will first go to an applicant with a master's degree. Most engineers with a bachelor's degree will start in an entry level, junior engineer position, in which they will learn a specific field of engineering.

What career opportunities are available for someone with a degree in electrical engineering?

Job prospects for electrical engineers are expected to be fairly good. The problem-solving skills acquired in an electrical engineering program provide an open door into many different career paths. A Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering will open the door into the field of engineering, but it also serves as a starting point for careers in many other diverse fields, ranging from business to law, medicine, and politics. There is also the opportunity to specialize and work in fields such as biomedical engineering, computer science, and aerospace engineering. Some specific types of jobs specifically in the electrical engineering field, are design engineer, software engineer, research engineer, and systems design engineer. These are just a few out of many, many different types of jobs available in this field. An electrical engineer can move up into a management position by acquiring expertise in a specific field. Technology is always growing, and engineers are the ones that help that process. There will be many jobs for engineers because of our need to constantly the improve the world around us.

How much money does an electrical engineer make?

The salary range in the field of engineering is directly related to the experience and expertise of a professional engineer. An entry level engineer, just out of college, makes an average of $55,000 a year. With a little more experience the salary averages increase through stages of $62,000, $77,000, and $85,000 a year. With an advanced PhD degtee, a college professor in electrical engineering makes an average of $102,000 a year.
