Schools or programs accredited under the umbrella of the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation must meet specific standards set by commission board. A school must have at least twenty graduates of their massage therapy program in order to consider for accreditation. The program must also have been in operation for a straight two years.

The commission also chooses to accredit schools that are legally recognized by the state which they are in as a legitimate business, they must offer post-secondary education, and they must offer a program that requires 600 hours of instruction. Programmatic accreditation is even more specified.

All programs and schools under the commission's umbrella must offer at least a certificate or diploma level for completion.
