Baker takes time

I was enrolled in this school and it was not a bad experience, the education was good but I have left because some of the instructors are not. I have had instructors that do not interact with their classes at all, which is ok if the students understand the subject matter but when they have questions students need the assistance of an instructor. Also, some instructors have too high of attendance requirements, I had one instructor that required 12 sessions per week (7 days), not quite what a working person can do.

BA Finance
July 13, 2008
By Mary - Brighton

I'm currently enrolled in the online Bachelor's of Finance program. I've taken 7 classes so far (the entire Business Core minus one class). I'm very impressed with the subject matter and have learned quite a bit through reading and class interaction. However, I'm amazed at the poor quality of language usage, primarily from students but sometimes from professors. It would be one thing if the students were marked down in some way, but no mention is generally made of glaring spelling errors, heinously-written threads to the point that I have difficulty understanding what some students are trying to say, and grade-school level grammar. It's very disturbing to think that those people are getting degrees and are being set free into the world with the same degree I'm getting. This is why I'm shopping for a different school for my Master's Degree. I'm afraid my BA from this school won't make the great impression on future employers that I'm hoping for.

Human Services

My experience with Baker College was excellent. The students and teachers were easy to work with and made learning an enjoyable experience. The online classes were great because they allowed me to work at my own pace, and the coursework was easy to follow as well. Baker definately helped to prepare me for my career.

Helpful Instructors

I loved visiting Baker College of Owosso and thought it would be a great school to go to and enjoy it there. They need to really re-evaluate the school and the services they provide to their students.

The good things about the school is that the instructors you can call them at home, and they are willing to meet with you at anytime. I don't know what other college you can do that it. That is definitely a bonus.

The bad side of the school, is that you live in the dorms it is gossip central and it is like high school all over again. Don't even pay for the dorm get an apartment the staff is extremely petty. If you live in the dorms expect your weekends to be pretty lame and there is not a lot of activities. You will be stuck in your room with nothing to do.

They need to have better advising for their students and better communication if they want to compete in the arena of higher education. On Fridays, tutoring stops at 1:00 in the afternoon, and the library closes at 5:00; however, classes are still going on in the evenings and think that is terrible. The library is the most important thing on a university campus, and most schools are open 24 hrs no matter what time. Baker of Owosso has a cap on how much time you can recieve tutoring per week and need to go through the schools counselor to get more.

Counseling and student advising needs a lot of work departments just don't work together and the counseling department screwed up a student's schedule that prevented them from graduating. They personally need a head advisor for the health students and works together with them. Students at that school are not very happy there. The best campus that offers the best services is Auburn Hills Baker, that truly is the best school around.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting
May 16, 2008
By Frank - Dallas, TX

Online learning is perfect for me due to my busy life and work schedule. Baker's online programs are designed to take advantage of technology. Their online courses provide education every bit as good as traditional campus classes. I had full access to Baker's libraries for research. Online chats, message boards and virtual classrooms allowed me to feel connected with my classmates and faculty. My degree in accounting has already paid off with increased pay and increased responsibility at work.
